Lynch US DVD Releases in Limbo

Updated: February 16th, 2004

The following Lynch films are currently not on the release schedule of the studios that own the rights to release the film. Below are contact email addresses to help and show your support for high quality releases on DVD in the US:

TWIN PEAKS: PILOT US RELEASE

The only version of this currently on DVD is the Hong Kong Region 0 DVD. The picture is average, and the sound quality can get annoying at times. See full review for more details. Every other Season One DVD box set outside of the US will get a clean copy of the pilot.

Paramount currently owns the rights to the Pilot in the US as well as most of the rest of the world, and so far have no plans to do a proper release in the US.

Be sure to ask that they release the version with the TV ending, as well as the theatrical ending as an extra.

LOST HIGHWAY
SPECIAL EDITION US RELEASE

Currently decent anamorphic transfers can be found on PAL Region 2 DVDs in both France and Germany. Canada has a Region 1 release in Pan and Scan that looks like crap. The first pressing on the German DVD is said to have a lip synch problem with the English audio track, so the French DVD is your best bet at this time.

The rights to this film in the US currently lay with Universal Home Video. Lynch had supervised the color timing for DVD in 2000 for USA films. USA films had announced this title as a Special Edition release for late 2000. It got delayed to late 2001. USA films catalog got acquired by Universal Home Video. Universal is scared to release this during the Robert Blake murder trials. Sending an email of support might help.

TWIN PEAKS: FIRE WALK WITH ME
SPECIAL EDITION WORLDWIDE RELEASE

So you are probably saying "wait a minute... Fire Walk With Me IS available on DVD." Well, if you knew how much the fans lost out on for this release due to legal and budget issues, you will know why it's on here. 17 Deleted Scenes to be exact, which totaled over an hour, hand picked edited, and scored by David Lynch. That's longer most episodes of Twin Peaks!

It's a long and twisted story, and can best be understood by going to the Official Fire Walk With Me Fight Website. New Line owns the rights to US distribution of the film itself, whereas MK2 own the actual rights to the film and all Deleted Scenes that would be included with it.

New Line needs to work with MK2 to bring us a Platinum 2 Disc Special Edition of Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me.
