Twin
Peaks on DVD and Otherness FAQ - December 31st, 2006 11:11pm
When
will Season 2 of Twin Peaks be released on DVD?
CBS/Paramount will be releasing Twin
Peaks: The Complete Season 2 DVD box set in the US on April 10th 2007.
Overseas,
Season 2 will be split into 2 sets (2.1 & 2.2) with the first one being
available in January 2007. All new interviews have been filmed
with the cast and crew. Notably absent from the set are the
Log Lady Intros, DTS audio tracks, and Director Commentaries.
What
about the Spanish Region 2 Full Season One and Season Two Sets
I keep seeing on Ebay?
The Region 2 Spanish DVD set
contains all 29 Episodes of Twin Peaks including the Pilot.
From what I have seen, the quality leaves a lot to be desired
and is only marginally better than VHS. Avoid this release at
all costs. Wait a few more months for the Official release
from CBS/Paramount.
When
is a version of Twin Peaks: FWWM going to be released with
Deleted Scenes on DVD?
From
what I can tell, unless the company that owns the scenes, MK2
can work a deal out with Lynch, we will probably never see this
come to light. MK2 claims to be in discussions with Lynch to
make this happen. A final decision has been pushed to 2007. If
a deal can be made, we can expect New Line to pick up the
Deleted Scenes here in the States an a release as early as
October 2007. This is only if a deal can be made.
- So
then
what about all the talk about New Line putting out a
Platinum Edition of FWWM with 55 minutes of Deleted Scenes featuring many of
the original cast of Twin Peaks?
What's the REAL story?
In conjunction with New Line Home Video, David
Lynch had selected specific Deleted Scenes to be included on
the New Lines FWWM DVD in the form of a supplement at the
end of the disc.
However...
At literally the last minute, New Line dropped the ball and decided NOT to include Deleted Scenes.
New
Line claimed that they did all they could, and in the end,
(according to New Line), the original rights holders (MK2) were non
responsive. Lynch however, has stated in his chatroom on many occasions that New Line simply did not want to pay what
it cost to do it right. At this point, all hope seemed lost, until...
January 2005, MK2, the owners and current rights holders of
Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me met with Lynch to discuss the
possibility of editing and releasing the Deleted Scenes for a
new Collectors Edition DVD of FWWM. They have been in
negotiations ever since.
Since
the New Line fiasco, Lynch has been put off on the whole
project
and has gone to spend time working on
projects for his online site and his new feature film, INLAND
EMPIRE. In my opinion, it would make sense for Lynch to cut a deal with MK2 to share costs of
editing the scenes in exchange for allowing Lynch to have
exclusive rights to show the scenes on his website!
Unfortunately, due to the high cost to complete these
scenes, even Lynch thinks it would be more trouble than its
worth.
If you are interested in being able to see these Deleted
Scenes, then let MK2 know today.
Showing your support will hopefully convince them that funding the scenes will be
a worthwhile expense. You can send them an email at: editions@mk2.com
and show your support... even if you don't live in France, as
other territories will be getting a new Special Edition
released with Deleted Scenes if MK2 produces them.

Any
hopes of Lynch ever releasing an extended cut of FWWM instead
of Deleted Scenes separate from the film?
Hopefully
this will clear up all of the confusion. It appears that Lynch
at one point wanted to do just that. Below is a few paragraphs
for the fine book "Lynch
on Lynch" by Chris Rodley page 185:
CHRIS RODLEY:
In part, adverse press and audience reaction to the movie was to do with the fact that much of the humour of the
TV series - the coffee, the doughnuts, etc. - had been dropped. All the niceties, and some of the characters,
were gone. All that was left was this desperate...
DAVID LYNCH:
Torment. Yes, that's true. But again I had a limit on the running time of the picture. We shot many scenes that
- for a regular feature - were too tangential to keep the main story progressing properly.
We thought it might be good sometime to do a longer version with these other things in, because a lot of the characters that are
missing in the finished movie had been filmed. They're part of the picture, they're just not necessary for the
main story.
In
2000, Lynch had completely changed his mind and told New Line
that he would only edit the Deleted Scenes as a bonus for the
DVD and not to be integrated back into the theatrical film.
Keep in mind that there was never a fully edited extended cut
of the film. It was only rough footage was about 5 1/2 hours
long.
Where
can I find a copy of the original draft script of TP:FWWM?
You
can find it here.
Why
do you keep talking about non US DVD Releases?
The
site is here to bring all of the info that I find about David
Lynch DVD releases for all Regions of the World, and not just
the US.
What's
up with the Pilot Episode not being included in the US Artisan
Season 1 DVD boxed set?
Rights to the Pilot Episode are now owned by CBS/Paramount. Artisans
box set contains the First Seven Episodes of the Series minus
the Pilot Episode. Artisan tried to acquire it for the US
release but met legal hurdles with Paramount.
Now that Paramount has the rights
to releasing the entire Series including the Pilot, we should
expect a complete release of all Twin Peaks Episodes including
the Pilot sometime in 2007.
I
saw a copy of the Pilot Episode on DVD from Hong Kong in an
Ebay Auction. Is this a bootleg?
Click
here to read my
full review of the Region 0 Twin Peaks: Pilot DVD. Short
answer, the video is better than VHS, and the sound leaves a
lot to be desired, but for about $15US, it makes a nice
addition to Artisans DVD set. Find it on Ebay for under $20.
Or, better yet, order it from Amazon.com by clicking here.
Whatever you do, do NOT spend more than $20 on this.
What
can I do to help get a proper Twin Peaks: Pilot and Season 2 released on DVD in
the US?

When
will Lost Highway be released on DVD?
According
to Universal, First half of 2004, however, the rep at
Universal hasn't returned my emails lately, so I'm thinking it
probably got pushed. Kind of funny how the words "it will
definitely be released first half of 2004" doesn't quite
translate very well over email. :P Latest rumor is that
Universal is worried of bad press with the whole Robert Blake murder. Guess we will just
have to wait it out. If you want to see the best transfer of
Lost Highway, you will need to get a region-free DVD player
and pick up the new MK2 Ultimate Edition, available now.
Do
you personally know David Lynch?
No,
I do not.
Can
you get me in contact w/ David Lynch?
I can't even get myself in contact with David Lynch. You can catch David Lynch around 7pm PST in his chatroom on DavidLynch.com
on most evenings.
How
often do you update the website?
Whenever
there is anything newsworthy to report.
What
is dugpa.com?
It
is what it is.
