Re: Renee/Alice - Good Witch or a Bad Witch?

Excellent input from those starting this thread. & though this may seem a contradiction I don't think I could disagree with any of the readings. It must be proof of the genius within David Lynch & Barry Gifford. I feel Lost Highway is perhaps Lynch's defining masterpiece. It could stand alon...

Re: Love MD but hate the ending

Ja, the ending is pretty bleak but interesting how Lynch, in the interviews on MD sees the 'traumatic ending' as a beautiful thing. It's interesting how we can look at the entire project as a traumatic experience for the filmmaker himself. Lynch intended the story for TV but that remained in an inco...

Re: Esoteric interpretation of Lost HIghway

I'm ready to toss the ideas in this post out the window. It doesn't feel like it makes much sense to me now. It feels incomplete & missing much of what I feel Lynch & Gifford are trying express. It's hard because I have these old ideas about god and the afterlife hanging around in my head, h...

I'm ready to toss the ideas in this post out the window. It doesn't feel like it makes much sense to me now. I think I'll have to think about it & post a better reading of it all.

Re: Animation in Mulholland drive

Hey garethw, thanks for the reply. Sorry about the really late reply ;) 'Are certain chemicals needed?' I'd say its probably best not to have them influence your perception. Try and wait till you've confirmed your suspicions with real tangible evidence. Tweak around on your media player, not your li...

Animation in Mulholland drive

Animation in a Lynch film? No I'm not kidding. It's there, but fairly well 'hidden'. Lynch has since his early days always been inspired by animation, so it make sense to me that he'd use it in some creative way in his work. I've tweaked the setting on my player and found that the artifacts I'd been...

Re: the ear

I think it moves into the middle ear. It moves beyond the crest of Helix and towards the extrernal auditory canal I think. Beyond that lies the hammer, anvil and stirrup.
I guess the idea of canal/tunnel would prob be significant in some way.

Re: Renee/Alice - Good Witch or a Bad Witch?

Some interesting questions raised here I think. If Fred "got involved with the wrong person" then this person is perhapst in some way responsible for the events that follow. Was Alice responsible? Could she possibly have framed Fred, even killed herself? Perhaps. In a sense the plot of Los...

Re: Lost Highway set in the same world as Twin Peaks?

It's interesting how Lynch creates these worlds that exists in a kind of parralell dimension within the Lynchian universe. I don't think Lost Highway is in the same world as Twin Peaks exactly but rather a closely related reality. It's kind of like an adjacent dimension that opens up within this uni...

Esoteric interpretation of Lost HIghway

I'm a huge Lynch fan and Lost Highway is perhaps his most powerful film. I thought I'd share a few ideas and see where they land. For me the film seems to be in part about man realising his condition ie. the fall of man/Adam. It seems to be the filmmakers interpretation of this age old mystery. But ...
