Re: Forum Closing April 15th, 2022

Wow. So I haven’t posted here in over 4 years, but I still read old threads and marvel at the level of insight and friendly discussion and analysis. I’m actually currently reading back through the “profoundly disappointed support group” thread on S3, which I posted in quite a bit, trying to come to...

Re: Twin Peaks: Season 3 on Blu-ray 12/5/17

I'm not even factoring in the ending, which to me is hard to see as anything but almost soul-crushingly despondent/Tragic (the Waggish piece is well-written but doesn't convince me otherwise). But the whole worldview as expressed by TR just seems to me very dour. Yes there's wackiness and fun and go...

Re: Twin Peaks: Season 3 on Blu-ray 12/5/17

Yes the BTS really show how gifted a director - and director of actors - Lynch is. The way he's able to get that emotional performance from Sizemore, or Naomi's angry snapping at the detectives in Part 7, or anything else... it was very cool to see. Even a small bit like the black cop who delivers t...

Re: Twin Peaks: Season 3 on Blu-ray 12/5/17

I got the DVD, not the Blu Ray. I'm still amazed with the clarity of the image. Sure, there was compression in the stream, but it's beautiful. I noticed it more than any DVD I've owned. The BTS insights are fascinating. When Lynch describes Freddie's fight with Bob, it sounds so much more visceral,...

Re: Twin Peaks Return: The Profoundly Disappointed Support Group (SPOILERS)

The 5-6 hours of BTS stuff on the blu-ray set is fascinating. One of the most interesting and relevant bits to the discussion here is in the last part, when Lynch is told something about having 2 days to shoot all of Judd's scenes (and by extension many of Ben and Jerry's scenes too). At least I thi...

Re: Poll: Worst Roadhouse performance

I liked Lissie's song, haven't heard anything else from her but I thought it was quite good and she has a great stage presence - it was one of the more compelling performances because it seemed more like it could be "real" and not just lip-synched etc (insert Club Silencio reference here)....

Re: Mark Frost's Contributions to TP:TR (Speculation)

I didn't care for those more politically-charged or Relevant moments in S3. They definitely felt more Frost than Lynch but regardless of their genesis it's just too didactic and trying too hard to take a stab at "saying something" about certain hot-button issues... but while remaining vagu...

Re: Twin Peaks Return: The Profoundly Disappointed Support Group (SPOILERS)

I've been doing a very protracted re-watch of Season 3 (I guess that's what we're calling it now? ;) ). I started out watching quite quickly, like a few episodes a day, but I got tired of it. I just find the thing to be too dispiriting and dark and cold and all those adjectives to be really watchab...

Re: Part 18 - What is your name? (SPOILERS)

2. the scene with Leo, Jacques and Ronette waiting for Laura is from FWWM.. some of it might have been alternative shots but it's basically the exact same scene except Laura never arrives in this version. So was all of the old footage used in Part 17 from the Pilot or FWWM as we know them? It seems...

Re: Twin Peaks Return: The Profoundly Disappointed Support Group (SPOILERS)

An interesting critique from The Solute: http://www.the-solute.com/twin-peaks-the-return/ "It’s been over a week since Twin Peaks: The Return has finished spinning its tale. I’m angry. No, I’m more than angry. I’m pissed off at David Lynch. David Lynch has taken a gorgeous image of tragic decay...

Re: So is there anyone else who prefers The Return to the original?

TR is definitely better than Episodes 17 to 22 and Episode 28 of the original, and the best of TR is better than Episodes 17 to 28. But overall I very much prefer the original series.

Re: The evolution of David Lynch and Twin Peaks (Spoilers)

@agent echo - You talk about the last episode in your interesting and thoughtful post. For me, the shot that changed everything that sticks in the mind emotionally was when Coop drives up to Judy's diner and you see him walk up to the door. Watching that, I had no idea atall what was going to happe...

Re: So is there anyone else who prefers The Return to the original?

Honestly, I find the Evelyn Marsh scenes at least more watchable than Ben's Civil War stuff, Little Nicky, or Lana "bewitching" every man in town (while generic "romantic" flute music plays, of course). Those three are at the bottom for me - the only plots with basically nothing ...
