Re: Theories & Speculation

Near the end of the first chapter of his new biography, DKL talks about his belief that we enter the world with a lot of our personality predetermined regardless of the circumstances of the rest of our lives. I’m not sure how much I agree, but I think this theory definitely speaks to where DKL is co...

Re: What's next? What chance do think there is we will see a season 4?

This reminds me of last year, when people were assuming some announcement was in the offing because the panel was in Hall H. We know Showtime views the show as a very important part of its ongoing rebranding effort. Without more evidence, I don’t see this as anything more than a part of their push t...

Re: Lynch to release memior 'Room To Dream: A Life In Art'.

Weird thing I came across while flipping around in the book: DKL takes credit for playing Tom Pinkle on the Tim & Tom’s Taxi-dermy photoshoot. However, the Access Guide credits Gregg Feinberg with this role (and Richard Saul Wurman has said that DKL was the photographer). Curiouser and curiouser...

Re: Lynch to release memior 'Room To Dream: A Life In Art'.

I’m only midway through the first chapter, but the structure of the book is ideal. Historically, the best chance one has at getting DKL to open up is presenting him with quotes from other people about his life/work and giving him rebuttal time. The photo of his dad in naval attire screams Garland Br...

I also think that, whether he admits it or not, DKL channels a lot of his own darkness and negativity into the work. As his best friend Jack Fisk said, if David didn’t make movies someone might be dead.

Re: Parts 3 & 4 - Call for help & ...brings back some memories (SPOILERS)

The “You can go out now” phrase also pops up in a few places, interestingly. Obviously Jade says it, giving Dale a flashback. But an offscreen woman says “You can go in now” to Cynthia Knox before she enters Col. Davis’s office, and Jeffries says it to Dale before he travels to 1989.

For those fascinated by Jack Parsons, CBS has a new streaming-only series produced by Ridley Scott about
Parsons’s life, called Strange Angel. I haven’t seen it yet, but it sounds potentially interesting.

I think the two Coopers being in one place is just too unpredictable. Mr. C broke the rules by even having both of them on Earth at the same time, he’s not going to risk a face-to-face meeting.

Re: Parts 1 & 2 - My log has a message for you & The stars turn and a time presents itself (SPOILERS)

This is an interesting idea because to the best of my recollection, MIKE isn’t in the season 3 credits, with Al Strobel’s lodge character being credited as Gerard. I’m not sure we can put too much as significance into this, as Strobel has actually NEVER been credited as “Mike.” In the original run ...

The Lyrics of Season 3

I thought it would be fun to have a dedicated thread collecting all the parallels we’ve noticed between the storyline of S3 and the songs DKL selected for the Roadhouse and elsewhere. Obviously, most of these songs predate TP and weren’t written with the show in mind, but they were handpicked by DKL...

Re: Wiseguy - the "Lynchboro arc"

I assume Steve Cannell or some other mucky-mucky on Wiseguy saw the TP Pilot when it was screened at the DGA. I think most of the “borrowed” elements come from the pilot, not necessarily from the rest of S1. That screening made waves in the industry about the way TP might change the face of televisi...

Re: Theories & Speculation

I personally don’t view the Part 18 credits as a literal part of the narrative progression, per se. I think DKL wanted us to be able to dream about what happens after Laura screams and the lights go out. I view the credits more as a thematic wrap-up than a literal one. Although I do think DKL viewed...

Re: Repurposed Footage

Huh, good call. re > Laura de-aging Since her skin indeed seemed very young, but her facial features were still obviously like that of an older person (eg. eye sockets and jaw change over time), I always thought they put a truckload of make up on her and made use of smart lighting effects to make s...

Re: One year later - how are we feeling?

I also wonder what the presumed Harry/Will dialogue in Part 7 would have been like, given that they were both there with Cooper in Episode 29, creating a very different dynamic to the Frank scene. I'm not anywhere near 100% sure on this, but I thought Arbogast stated that the reason Warren Frost ne...

Re: Is Major Briggs an Orpheus figure?

I agree that Cooper is also an Orpheus figure, because of his attempt to rescue Annie Blackburn. But Maj. Briggs is another Orpheus, because his head floats off, and takes it place among the stars. Actually, the "disembodied head", theme appears in Eraserhead (1977), when Henry's head fal...
