It was the ring finger, not the middle finger — i.e., the “spiritual mound” (whatever that means).

Re: Sarah’s smile of darkness

The teeth don’t look like a match to either Fenn or Lee, to me. Any dental specialists on the board? ;)

The visual definitely brings to mind Laura’s creepy smile from the fan scene in TMP, but I don’t think that’s an exact match either.

Re: Episode 29

One of the funniest things in this episode, that I don’t believe I’ve ever seen someone mention, is that Audrey and Andrew have a very polite, sweet interaction and she then lets him pass — neither one realizing that she is in fact protesting HIS development! It’s a nice bit of subtle irony that I d...

Prolific puppeteer, children’s TV host, voiceover artist and actor Chuck McCann (a.k.a. Wally Walters / Mr. Peanuts) passed away a few days ago: https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/chuck-mccann-dead-comic-actor-kids-tv-host-was-83-1024097 Related, I came across this account of a USC panel on On t...

Re: the Missing Pieces

Rewatched The Missing Pieces as I'm in the midst of my full rewatch of everything. I hadn't ever really thought about it and honestly forgot about it up until I saw it again, but when MFAP tells Cooper "There is nowhere to go...BUT HOME!" what does he mean? What did people take it to mean...

Re: The Elephant Man and The Straight Story

Random question, but has there ever been an explanation for why two different actresses play Merrick’s mother in the opening and closing scenes? It seems like the closing “talking head” shot could have been shot literally anywhere at any time. Why weren’t they able to have one actress do both scenes?

Re: What's your favourite scene from The Return?

I think Ashbrooks’s straight-man earnestness grounds the scene. I don’t think it would be as effective with Hawk (who is more comfortable with the weird/supernatural) or Andy (whose presence might risk plunging the scene into camp). Not a knock on Goaz, who did some great subtle dramatic work this s...

Re: What's your favourite scene from The Return?

Great points, claaa7. I do think that scene, like Part 8, represents the L/F collaboration at its most simpatico, a perfect synergy between Mark’s more political sensibility and DKL’s philosophical interest in exploring/combating human suffering and pain.

Re: What's your favourite scene from The Return?

Sick Girl is way up there for me too. Not necessarily so much for that moment itself (although it’s a hilarious button on the scene), but for the sense of suburban anxiety and dread the whole horn-honking sequnce evokes. The foley and the lighting were outstanding. And it was just so damn cool, afte...

Heh, that’s a neat point about Jacoby and Norma. That gives me a new appreciation for the rather cliché/rushed Walter storyline.

Re: What's your favourite scene from The Return?

For some reason I also like Steven and Gersten in the woods, even though I hated it initially. It has no context, the lines have been removed, but I liked Jones' wigged-out performance. This is also one of my favorite scenes, as I’ve said before. It really draws you into their sense of paranoia and...

Re: Twin Peaks Return: The Profoundly Disappointed Support Group (SPOILERS)

Ah ok so the argument is that Cooper released something damaging from the Black Lodge - on a cosmic level? I would tend to agree with that more than any of these definitive ideas about Mr C raping Audrey etc. I think it’s pretty obvious that Mr. C raped Audrey on a “literal” story level, although, ...

Re: Twin Peaks Return: The Profoundly Disappointed Support Group (SPOILERS)

I strongly, vehemently disagree. One reason is TP related, but the main reason is of a different nature. Let’s start with the easy one, TP. The fact that the kid died is due to reckless behavior exactly as Cooper venturing into the Lodge to save a girl. Both characters clearly display no interest t...

Re: Twin Peaks Return: The Profoundly Disappointed Support Group (SPOILERS)

Let’s put it this way. If Cooper had never ventured into the Black Lodge to save Annie, the innocent kid would still be alive. I think that the function of the dramatic scene of the kid’s death is to show that unfortunately good intentions will not ease pain as a whole. Actually, saving Annie proba...
