Re: Lynch to release memior 'Room To Dream: A Life In Art'.

Dern: “I remember hearing Philip Seymour Hoffman talking about why [INLAND EMPIRE] scared him, and what made him uncomfortable, and his effort to understand it—listening to him talk about INLAND EMPIRE was magnificent.”

Re: Lynch to release memior 'Room To Dream: A Life In Art'.

Another piece of either misinformation or sloppy drafting: the book implies that the entire Poland shoot for IE occurred in 2006, but this is impossible, since one of the actors playing the old men in the séance scene died in April 2004!

Re: Emmy Nominations thread

Mr. Reindeer do you have any feelings about Fuller House receiving a nomination for Best Children's programming? Can we say that nomination alone discredits the Emmy's this year :-) To be fair, I know nothing about this new incarnation — it could involve a brilliant turn from Stamos as Uncle Jesse ...

Re: Emmy Nominations thread

I don't see that as being the case. I see every film from Fire Walk with Me onwards to be an extension of the last. He made Lost Highway before Mulholland Drive, and the poor notices for Lost Highway didn't stop him from making another head movie in Mulholland. Mulholland before Inland, and Inland ...

Re: Lynch to release memior 'Room To Dream: A Life In Art'.

Responding to a very old post from another thread , just to clear something up: I think it's worth noting that while IE doesn't have a credit for cinematographer, it does for additional lighting, which includes Peter Deming as first bill. Per Jay Aaseng: “Peter Deming helped on one or two scenes but...

Re: Emmy Nominations thread

For sure, didn't mean to imply great performances have to be a kaleidoscope of outward expression, my issue is more that Wright's performance made me feel nothing for the Bernard character, which is a problem I had with almost all the characters on that show. But like you said, that's way more on t...

Re: Emmy Nominations thread

I believe that in the main drama and comedy categories, actors submit a particular episode which is their strongest of the season, and are nominated/win on the basis of the single episode. This is not necessarily the same episode submitted for other categories of the show (best drama, director, &...

Re: Emmy Nominations thread

I dunno, I gained newfound respect for Kyle’s work on the show after watching the BTS stuff. He did some incredible stuntwork and body/face acting for the FX shots!

Re: General Discussion on the New Series (All Opinions Welcome)

Interesting! Mark has repeatedly said that he wanted the new season to unfold like a novel, and also that he was the one who really pushed to expand the world beyond TP (whereas DKL has always said he loves “neighborhood stories”). I think most of us attributed the “dreamer” stuff to DKL, due to the...

Re: Emmy Nominations thread

I don’t think you need to display a “maelstrom of emotions” to be nominated for an acting Emmy. Jon Hamm was nominated for all eight seasons of Mad Men, and while he occasionally had big emotional moments (particularly in the two episodes he won for), it was mostly an extremely subtle, low-key perfo...

Re: Lynch to release memior 'Room To Dream: A Life In Art'.

It’s interesting that DKL seems not to have a great opinion of David Cronenberg. I think many of us might have pegged Cronenberg as about as close to a kindred spirit as DKL might have in semi-mainstream Hollywood, but he rather dismissively implies that The Straight Story did not win any awards at ...

Re: Lynch to release memior 'Room To Dream: A Life In Art'.

If you have the chance, make sure to listen to the audiobook too. All of the Kristine McKenna sections are basically verbatim, but Lynch tells some stories that aren’t in the book and some of the stories in the book get more elaboration and sometimes don’t exactly match up with the written recollec...

Re: Emmy Nominations thread

I hope they win every possible award. In many hours will the nominations be announced? Being announced right now. No acting nominations for TP, but Dern was nominated for The Tale. Not particularly surprising, but Kyle was robbed. I’m guessing DKL will get a direcing nomination; if not, this is a t...

Re: Lynch to release memior 'Room To Dream: A Life In Art'.

Not sure if this is common knowledge, but I just learned from the book that Lynch regular Scott Coffey (Jack Rabbit, Trick in TP:TR) is the son of DKL’s late, beloved personal assistant Gaye Pope. I’d always wondered how he got small roles in so many Lynch films! I remember at some point someone on ...
