Re: Heather Graham on WWHL

Not too surprising. I've always felt "How's Annie?" was not a good portent of what was to come.

Re: Worthiest Missing Piece?

I'm more inclined to follow the law of economy of characters. Do we need a second lost agent when there already is one? Especially one played by David Bowie with a terrible southern accent? It's Desmond whose fate we're curious about after the preceding scene... yes it's disorienting but I think ha...

Re: Worthiest Missing Piece?

A couple things about Jeffries/Chet: 1. I think a big part of why the scene works is the audience is disoriented by this guy. This doesn't work if it's the guy we've been watching for 30 minutes. Suddenly, we're in his POV, instead of Cooper's and Cole's and Albert's. The scene doesn't work as much,...

Re: Worthiest Missing Piece?

The Coop/Albert scene may be there for a similar reason, to break up two sequences between which a lot of the connective material had been cut - Laura at Harold's and Laura at the RR. I guess maybe it was also meant to create some tentative link between Laura and Coop but, much as I'm fine with the...

Worthiest Missing Piece?

Not what was the best, but what one deserved to be in the final cut the most? (Unless you think it's none.) I'm sure some will say the precursor to the later wash your hands scene, the one with the Norwegian names; others might pick the Hayward message to Laura that foreshadows the end of the flick....

Re: Rewatching Twin Peaks: full, partial & waiting for 2016

What about only episodes with a Lynch credit or a Frost credit? So: 1. Pilot 2. 1x01 3. 1x02 4. 1x05 5. 1x07 6. 2x01 7. 2x02 8. 2x04 9. 2x07 10. 2x09 11. 2x19 12. 2x22 13. Fire Walk with Me Missing some good stuff for sure, and some of it isn't so great, but overall that's a streamlined marathon tha...

Re: The Bob/Leland relationship

The truth being told is a metaphorical truth. Leland is, and to a certain extent, isn't, responsible for his actions. The central metaphor of TP is the cycle of sexual abuse. Leland makes it very clear, in almost unbearably literal language, that he was sexually abused as a boy. Many individuals wh...

Re: How did you react to these turning points in Twin Peaks?

For compilation post: In terms of the show's big moments, I marathoned the entire series during spring of 2010, from pilot to FWWM over a Monday-Friday period. Most of my major reactions have been echoed in the various posts here, so I won't bore you with them. One thing that does surprise me in ret...

The Goals of the Spirits

I posted this in another thread, but it was pretty off topic, so I figured I'd give it its own thread and allow the gender identity discussion remain that. I always thought the Little Man's line, "With this ring, I thee wed" was meant to hint at this, that Bob was "wed" to the ri...

Re: Gender Idenity

Apologies as I didn't intend this to be "my definitive take on the spirits" when I started, hahaha... Although I definitely do describe to one of the more complicated Laura/ring theories the upshot is the same - Laura taking the ring is an explicit rejection of Bob. Agreed. I always though...

Re: Fire Walk With Me early drafts

Of course, that would put the kibosh on the idea of Bob entering Leland because he was molested by a man named Robertson. Frankly, I've always wondered what Lynch thought of Leland's ambiguous backstory as shared in ep. 16. I've never liked it to be honest. At its best, the series used supernatural...

Re: Distinguishing Fire Walk With Me from The Missing Pieces

I think the fan edit is a pretty cool experiment. I'm a big supporter of fan interactivity and participation in art. Dune: Third Stage Edition is a marvel. But of course, I'm going to respect the artist and watch it his way first. I'd seen FWWM a zillion times over the years, and then when the Blu-R...
