Re: Peaks Fans Top 15 Movies

Bergman stated that two of his favourite movies were Persona and Winter Light.

I'm a big fan of the entire trilogy of faith (Through a Glass Darkly/Winter Light/The Silence).

Hour of the Wolf is another favourite, which Lynch noted to be one of his major influences.

If anybody cares what I think of these movies in more detail, the link is the signature below. ;) I have checked out the link you provided, and I have to say I'm impressed. You list some great films, but the list of your favourite books is even more interesting. I have read just some of those title...

Re: Peaks Fans Top 15 Movies

If I had to reduce it to 15 (one per director), it would look something like this: Mulholland Dr. (Lynch) Persona (Bergman) Stalker (Tarkovsky) Come and See (Klimov) A Brighter Summer Day (Yang) Late Spring (Ozu) The Bitter Tears of Petra von Kant (Fassbinder) L'avventura (Antonioni) Videodrome (Cro...

Re: Rank the Series Directors

I fully agree with the OP on Hunter's direction in Episode 16. The first slow motion shot of the four musketeers (after a gruesome murder was committed and the body was found) pretty much kills the mood immediately, and the overuse of canted angles goes from distracting to laughable in a matter of s...

Re: The biggest problem with The Return - the fear/mystery element largely missing?

I never really felt the emotional impact of Cooper wasting the better part of his life in The Lodge. I definitely did on the other hand. The tear falling when Cooper is watching Sonny Jim, his goodbye to Dougie's family, and the final scene of the show all encompass the emotion of a life wasted and...

Re: What's your favourite scene from The Return?

Cooper saying goodbye to Janey-E and Sonny Jim is a big favorite, since it shows all the wonderful aspects of Cooper's character and it gives Naomi Watts that opportunity to switch from light-hearted to poignant, which she did so wonderfully well in Mulholland Drive. Otherwise, pretty much all of Pa...

Re: What were the most impactful scenes of TP:TR?

So many, but I'd say these are the ones I liked the best:

- Cooper saying goodbye to Janey-E and Sonny Jim
- the final scene
- Cooper in the "mauve room"
- the nuclear blast/the Fireman creating Laura orb
- Diane and Bad Coop in prison

Re: So is there anyone else who prefers The Return to the original?

I definitely need to rewatch the whole thing to make proper judgment. At this point, I think the new Twin Peaks is a more unique, complex and consistent vision of a director not distracted by TV restrictions. That being said, I think at this point I still prefer the Lynch-directed episodes of the or...

Re: Lost in the Movies on Twin Peaks: The Return

Excellent write-up on Parts 17 and 18, Joel. We have similar interpretations about Cooper and what transpired in the end. I am so tremendously relieved. I was watching Part 17 with total dread, horrified by some of the choices made by Frost and Lynch. I am inclined to say that Part 18 was brilliant,...

Screentimes of characters

Similar to what LostIntheMovies was doing in his retrospective, how would the ranking of the characters in the new Twin Peaks look like according to their screentime? This is now before the 2-hour finale: Cooper (counting all iterations) After that it gets more difficult (here's my guess for top 10 ...

Re: Ranking the episode of The Return

So far I'd rank 8, 7, 15, 11, 3 and 2 as my favourites.

I'll try and rank the whole thing when I see it all. 6 and 12 are my least favourites.

Re: NON SPOILERS: Twin Peaks: Season 3 on Showtime Thread

While I exactly know what you're thinking in terms of style, I don't think "cold" is the right word though, since there is plenty of emotion to be found (and will be found) in Cooper's journey. Maybe more clinical.

Yes, it's out (Austria) and still online.
Is it dubbed?

I see it's OV, which means "original version" if I'm not mistaken?

Re: Parts 3 + 4 (Spoilers)

Laura Dern as Diane (a theory I never bought until now) is my guess as to the topic of Albert and Cole's conversation.
