Re: Part 13 - What story is that, Charlie? (SPOILERS)

I’ve come to really like most of the Mr. C material, but for some reason the arm-wrestling scene just doesn’t really do it for me. I’m always rooting for it to pull me in, but it just feels like such a normal, predictable scene that could be from any movie. It is interesting that Mr. C sort of beco...

Re: Part 9 - This is the chair (SPOILERS)

Oh, I think the sound design on the can is 100% intentional. If there’s one area where Lynch is exceptionally particular, even for him, it’s with sound, and he did all the sound for the show himself. I think he saw that when she picks up the can it clearly doesn’t have any heft to it and reads as a...

Re: Part 9 - This is the chair (SPOILERS)

It’s interesting, Diane doesn’t appear to be acting when she meets the Doppelganger in prison and asks who he is. But here, we learn that she’s working for him and they exchange texts. I wonder if her tulpa programming blocks her from remembering certain things at certain times. Or if her loyalty t...

Re: Twin Peaks Actually Explained (Youtube)

Joel Bocko's videos really are the cream of the crop. His latest few on Lynch's collaboration with Mary Sweeney are particularly good. I'm always interested in Joel's thoughts and look forward to his video focused specifically on The Return. But I read something in print a while back with him and s...

Re: Twin Peaks Actually Explained (Youtube)

Now that said, I think he has overestimated Lynch's will to criticize television. After watching his analysis I am 100% convinced that the television/cinema/viewer angle is a crucial and very likely THE most important angle to understanding the show. For my part, I think the reason this theory isn'...

Re: Part 8 - Gotta light? (SPOILERS)

It’s interesting to me when Ray says, “I saw something in Cooper. It may be the key to what this is all about.” Is Bob more central/important to TR than it seems? Conversely: Frost in TFD portrays Judy/Jowday/Joudy and Bob/Ba’al as contemporaries/counterparts, but here it seems like Bob is just one...

Re: Part 5 - Case files (SPOILERS)

The relationship between Mr. C and the Woodsmen is a real mystery. I’d initially assumed they assisted him in killing Briggs, but now my suspicion is that they killed Garland to prevent Mr. C from getting the coordinates, and planted the ring in his stomach to leave a trail of breadcrumbs leading b...

Re: Parts 3 & 4 - Call for help & ...brings back some memories (SPOILERS)

I’m not entirely clear on whether or not DoppelCoop intended to get arrested at this point. Obviously he wanted to get to Ray, and downloaded the prison schematics...but what a strange way to get arrested. It seems unnecessarily risky to be driving at 2:53 when he anticipated things going haywire. ...

Part 2 rewatch... Does anyone know what the building is in the opening credits? I find it interesting that Lynch chose a drone shot with man-made structures in it, rather than an unspoiled woods/mountain shot like he generally favored in both series. (We get our best look at it under Angelo and Duw...

Re: The biggest problem with The Return - the fear/mystery element largely missing?

Bob was completely ruined by Season 3, but that's partially not their fault. I think they struggled to reconcile doppelganger Cooper with Bob possession, this was a problem created in the 90s. Also, the red room/black lodge stuff was not as effective as it used to be: the sets felt huge and empty, ...

Re: Rank the Series Directors

Great post! I generally agree and would love to dig into it more. I just wanted to chime in quickly and say that I too have just finished an original series rewatch after a couple years away, and I reached a pretty concrete conclusion that nearly gels with your findings. Which is that I unquestionab...

Re: Twin Peaks actors working together outside TP

It gets even more interesting though! It's directed by Monte Hellman, whose Two Lane Blacktop, The Shooting and Ride in the Whirlwind are in the Criterion Collection. It's definitely worth a watch for the curiosity factor alone, as I can't think of another such similarly odd combination of acclaime...

Re: Twin Peaks actors working together outside TP

All added What I find more interesting about Silent Night Deadly Night 3 is that Laura Harring is also in it. Not Twin Peaks, but that deserves an asterisk at least! I know! Now I have to check that one out. Seems horrible tho  It gets even more interesting though! It's directed by Monte Hellm...
