Do you want to take a stab yet at what it 'means'? :-)

Yes, that hit me right away.

Re: The biggest problem with The Return - the fear/mystery element largely missing?

For me, an area where I feel the fear/mystery was lacking was with regard to the Doppelganger. BOB/Leland in the original series was a perpetrator of cosmic evils (incest, murder, rape). Evil Coop in the Return looked like a drug runner from Scarface - particularly in the Buenos Aires photo Albert ...

I was actually thinking the same thing.

Re: Twin Peaks Season 3, Star Wars, JJ and Fan Service

Note that Veronica Mars was actually able to pull this off successfully for its second season, before ditching the formula for its third and final season. So it definitely could have been done- a new murder, a new mystery... And it worked again for Veronica Mars' fourth and hopefully not final seas...

Re: Twin Peaks Season 3, Star Wars, JJ and Fan Service

Twin Peaks never had a formula, per se , but I think the basics of what a lot of fans wanted was another mystery in Twin Peaks, with Cooper teaming up with the Sheriff's station to solve the crime. Note that Veronica Mars was actually able to pull this off successfully for its second season, before ...

Re: Twin Peaks Season 3, Star Wars, JJ and Fan Service

I did. I understand it was him voicing his personal feelings, but the mag presented it as a 'critical' essay and I found it anything but. It had a lot of fallacies in thought. For instance, the new series is put under this hyper-scrutinizing and often pessimistic lens that the old series isn't flay...

...yest completely reviled by many in the fan base. By many I think we are talking about approximately 7 very, very loud people. I should have said by 'some in the fan base'. I honestly think it's extremely difficult to measure how the existing fan base felt about Season 3. My guess is that about 8...

Re: Twin Peaks Season 3, Star Wars, JJ and Fan Service

It is interesting that the most divisive reaction to Twin Peaks The Return was from the fan base. One of the key reasons why I trust David Lynch if he decides to do a Season 4 is because he doesn't give a crap what the fans think or if the fans want more. He's going to do it if there's a new experi...

Re: Season 4? Or is it over after this?

I don't think the festival thing goes any deeper than CBS realizing they can squeeze some money out of a popular IP that has probably gained a lot of new fans over the last few years. It's possible CBS/Showtime is just trying to milk a fanatical fan base with conventions, merchandise, VR, etc., wit...

It’s pretty common to bring in new, younger characters and move the older characters more in the background. Just look at every American daytime drama.

Re: Twin Peaks Season 3, Star Wars, JJ and Fan Service

So I went ahead and spoiled Rise of Skywalker and yes, it seems pretty clear major subversive points from The Last Jedi were ‘unsubverted’ based on popular demand. Which is highly inauthentic from an artistic standpoint. But, from a business standpoint, I can’t really fault Disney for what was done ...

Re: Twin Peaks Season 3, Star Wars, JJ and Fan Service

So I finally saw The Last Jedi in its entirety last night, (it is currently included with Netflix subscription). Boy was it a slog to get through, though it finally did start to click with me at the end, a little. I have just seen too many starship battles, too many laser sword (light saber) fights....

Re: Twin Peaks 30: Official Fan Celebration (Graceland)

From what I hear, not everyone was happy with the way the Festival was run. I don’t remember the exact sources of conflict but a sizable chunk of fans will be happy with this move. More importantly, my guess is that this is just one part of a strategy to roll out either a new season/movie and/or new...
