Re: Part 8: reference to 2001?

When the bomb went off in Part 8, both the visuals and the music were, to me, quite obviously inspired by the Star Gate sequence from 2001: A Space Odyssey. In fact it could be considered a tribute. For that reason, I had trouble simply sitting back and being one with the scene. Recalling the absol...

Part 8: reference to 2001?

I watched 2001 for the first time in a while and I now realize that Part 8 is so directly inspired by the 2 hour mark of Kubrick's film. I can't see part 8 the same way again. I know I'm not the first to make this comparison, but holy shit.. part 8 now feels like someone took my favorite jazz albums...

Re: Garmonbozia = for men only?

I had a hard time following your post, but I've read some back in the day people positing creamed corn is a metaphor for sperm. Remember that in the Secret Diary, BOB has Laura lick himself off her hands, and we see MFAP slurping it from his cupped hands in the same way. What does BOB make Laura sa...

Re: Garmonbozia = for men only?

This is also pretty lateral, but when I first learned of the Twin Peaks creamed corn I was reading about the transition from hunter-gatherer to agriculture around 10,000 yrs ago and how that really brought about war, oppressive political regimes, inequality, and old testament bs that I think we are ...

Re: Lynch Telling off his crew

While filming WILD AT HEART he wouldn't go onto set until he saw his own initials on a car license plate number. That is schizophrenia. Hey don't knock schizophrenia. I know im getting trolled but it's tough to reconcile the accounts Room to Dream with the videos of him getting pissed off. It's als...

Re: Lynch Telling off his crew

Watching this and the other video where Lynch reacts to imposed time constraints, I can see it both ways. On one hand, I see a guy defending his artistic freedom and on the other I see a bit of a crybaby. I don't see anything out of the ordinary coming from anyone around him. I think they are very a...

Re: 'Russian Doll' Makes Me Appreciate S3 More (Spoilers for RD)

***************Russian Doll Spoilers***************** I really enjoyed Russian Doll for what it is, don't get me wrong, it's one of the few shows I have watched and enjoyed since The Return. However.... As I watch the 'time loops' explained, it really makes me appreciate more and more the approach ...

Re: Carrie Page and Last Temptation of Christ thoughts (spoilers 4 Last Tempt.)

regarding Swerves. Cool book, but I was a little disappointed. As a guy who reads a lot about physics most of Swerves was pretty trite. vague and repetitive associations between concepts like entanglement and various Lynch characters. A great article or post but not enough material for a great book ...

Re: Teresa Banks and Carrie Page

I think you may really be onto something. What you said - all of it. I am watching that entire car sequence w Leland and Mike in FWWM in a new light. Really indicative of some kind of identity superposition Teresa and Laura (or Carrie). The very next scene when Laura is in her room and she has a fla...

Re: The Random Twin Peaks Thread

Given all that you both wrote, and great points btw, I still wonder about the contribution of these so-called bad episodes and subplots to the Twin Peaks world at large. I'll make the argument that they are in fact bad in this context: Most of those subplots (Dick Tremayne and little Nicky, Evelyn ...

Re: The Random Twin Peaks Thread

Couldn't have said it better myself. And for the record: I love all of season 2, even the "bad" stuff. For me as a contemporary viewer back then, it was an unparalleled thrill after the Palmer situation got resolved guessing what could possibly come next and where in the heck will Lynch -...

Re: The Random Twin Peaks Thread

To bolster the arguments by S2 sympathizers above I would add that S2 is the perfect compliment to S1, the yin to its yang. That I agree it doesn't get the credit it deserves and there are moments of real novelty and brilliance. Ben lost in the civil war is one of my favorite moments of TV ever
