Re: Just a thought...about the entire extent of our enjoyment

On the "tulpa overdose": Would it have helped if the tulpa-concept didn't exist in "our world" but was just something Lynch thought up for Twin Peaks? no it wouldn't. I didn't like the way it was dropped in ( like an airbus concept bombing word parcels onto the verbally starving...

Re: Just a thought...about the entire extent of our enjoyment

If you really feel monads to be a shortcut, you must be a very very experienced Haskell-programmer!!! i'm not, i know nothing about that at all, that is my point: i dislike it because it is an inside nerd loop and i want to read this series - or any film - without all that special privilege bollock...

Re: Twin Peaks:The Return is the Doppelganger of Twin Peaks

I'm serious. Hear me out. Twin Peaks The Return is a deliberate and subversive act by Lynch. Seen as a work of metalogic and 4-D chess, it actually makes sense. Think John Doe in Se7en or The Joker on The Dark Knight. Several things in TP:TR seem purposely inverted from the original series. It woul...

Re: Just a thought...about the entire extent of our enjoyment

I think this is where I disagree then. Originally I started writing a very long reply trying to lay out my position vis-à-vis internal talk with reference to Bahktin, Blanchot, Heidegger and Wittgenstein, and then realised that this conversation would be far too overpowered for what is needed here....

Re: Just a thought...about the entire extent of our enjoyment

I've posted about 'death of the author' theory and Lynch elsewhere (where it was quite off-topic) but I'll repost what I said here as I think it ties in very neatly with what you're claiming, and also elaborates on how I think he also develops beyond it. I've also written a short piece (3 pages) ab...

Re: Part 18 - What is your name? (SPOILERS)

Having rewatched the entirety of the series in just 5 days, with the last 9 episodes during 2, this is my feeling as well. Without the long wait between segments it plays out differently and gives much more credence to Coop being on the right path all along. Something i feel have been thoroughly ov...

Re: Just a thought...about the entire extent of our enjoyment

The black box "reveal" is a very overt moment that even the most inattentive viewer will spot. It pretty much hits us over the head. I'm not sure that that particular example is the best support for your apparent assertion that there is some hidden key we have to unlock in the work. Ever ...

Re: Twin Peaks:The Return is the Doppelganger of Twin Peaks

It all makes sense now. Not sure how serious you are - but some things in The Return indeed seem very doppelgängery. In the town of Twin Peaks itself, many details are a little bit off - and something sinister seems to be lurking in the shadows. But of course, it generally stays below the surface ....

Re: Part 18 - What is your name? (SPOILERS)

I'm still making my way through this thread and posting willy-nilly, but as I've already posted I believe there's a chance that The Fireman was warning Cooper about his identity slippage into Richard. That Cooper would only be able to hang on to his mission by remembering his own identity, even tho...

Re: Part 18 - What is your name? (SPOILERS)

Out of curiosity I checked how many miles the drive is from the Trinity Test site to Odessa, Texas. If one heads south to El Paso, then east to the outskirts of Odessa, it's exactly 430 miles. Probably just a coincidence though. That's certainly the best guess for point A and B of Cooper and Diane'...

Re: Part 18 - What is your name? (SPOILERS)

And now for something (completely) different ... It's been over a week and discussions are slowly ebbing down. But at this moment, there are still some open questions I'm sticking around for, as I haven't found satisfying answers to them, explanations that would seem sufficient to me. The most promi...

Re: Part 18 - What is your name? (SPOILERS)

I'm confused by many things about the finale, but if I had to pick one thing that stands out, it would be the fact that Cooper is so oblivious to the altered nature of the reality he crosses over to. If Laura is not herself in this reality, but rather a girl named Carrie Page, then why on earth wou...

Re: Part 18 - What is your name? (SPOILERS)

Cooper expresses a love for the big dreamy myths of America, but also a dark curiosity for what lurks just beneath that. His journey in episode 18 (and perhaps the whole series) might be viewed as symbolic of David Lynch's own struggles as an artist. A lot of Lynch's work wrestles with that tension...

Re: Part 18 - What is your name? (SPOILERS)

I feel like there is a kind of contrast between Dougie's joyous return home and Laura's amnesiac-to-waking-nightmare return home. The episode begins and ends with these moments of homecoming. I don't know what it means per se, but maybe someone else has a take on this. Great observation! Let's try ...

Re: Part 18 - What is your name? (SPOILERS)

I see theories which are all very compelling, but I just don't see any substantive evidence that Cooper erased the original timeline. I think people who do that are assuming Lynch/Frost are taking a very conventional approach to time travel and changing history - that once it's done everything snap...
