I am really digging the slide show on the new home page. Fabulous, atmospheric photos! Just want to give a shout out to whoever is responsible. :D

Stavrogyn wrote: As for The Rocky Horror Picture Show , that film has been on my list for a few years now; I need to see it as soon as possible. And again, I didn't know Meat Loaf was in it until he passed away (accidentally, I rewatched Fight Club at a theater the day before his passing). I’m aging...

Re: Film musicals

I own two movie musicals in my movie collection. 1. "How To Succeed in Business Without Really Trying" - well before "The Office", there was How To Succeed! 2. "Oliver" - it was the musical I grew up with, so it has a special place in my heart. Edit: oops forgot The So...

Re: Film musicals

I never heard of A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum ; it sounds like my kind of thing, so thank you for the recommendation! I'm generally more into ancient Greece (Socrates and the gang), but this will do just fine! One of the songs from 'Forum' is really famous...'Comedy Tonight'. They...

Re: Film musicals

A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To the Forum (1966) is a musical comedy I loved as a kid and still find hilarious. Richard Lester directing, based on the play with music by Stephen Sondheim, cinematography by Nicolas Roeg, starring Zero Mostel, Jack Gifford, Phil Silvers, Buster Keaton’s last fil...

Re: Film musicals

I’m all about the dance in a musical, and I adore Bob Fosse, so of course I agree about Cabaret . But my favorite Fosse is All That Jazz (1979). A brilliant film all the way around, with one of the most sensual dances I have ever seen on screen (Take Off With Us). Sweet Charity (1969) with Shirley M...

Thanks so much Histeria for reminding me I had The Green Knight on my watch list! Watched it today and loved it. Such a beautiful, magical, mystical film!

Re: Peaks Fans Top 15 Movies

I totally agree with you, Stavrogyn! Such a wonderful evocation of a supportive, artistic community. Mike Leigh’s Topsy Turvy is also a fantastic film about the nuts and bolts of putting on a Gilbert & Sullivan performance. Totally different culturally than a small Argentinian theater, but also ...

Re: Peaks Fans Top 15 Movies

For my 15 I decided to leave out the already listed films by Kubrick and Fellini and Bergman and Tarkovksy and Lynch, etc. and list instead films and directors that seem woefully unrepresented. Also decided to stay more recent. Here goes… All About My Mother-Almodovar McCabe & Mrs. Miller-Altman...

Re: Antkind by Charlie Kaufman

And for our next Charlie Kaufman fix, we get I'm Thinking of Ending Things on Netflix tomorrow (9/4)! I can’t wait! The trailer looks bananas. What a ride. After a first viewing, my favorite scene was Jessie Buckley slipping into a Pauline Kael impression to extensively quote/recite/appropriate Kae...

Re: Antkind by Charlie Kaufman

I was thinking that the monster on the beach was the clones Mudd and Molloy sent back in time. As you said, Dunham suggests to Herbert "what if that mound of stuff was us?...babies of us from the future, that get all jammed up together in their travel back in time to now..." I was confused...
