Re: Ray/Phillip Jeffries storyline

But do you find the original series more satisfying in this regard? All of the clues were ultimately red herrings, and Cooper literally solves the crime by having the answer told to him. You don’t find that to be a colossal cheat? TP has always been about subverting the typical mystery narrative, a...

Re: Ray/Phillip Jeffries storyline

Don't forget that it's also heavily implied that Mr. C was on the scene when Ruth Davenport was killed (heck, The Final Dossier pretty much spells this out). Which makes things even sloppier with respect to Ray. If Mr. C was there, he already had access to the coordinates, they were written in LARG...

Re: Ray/Phillip Jeffries storyline

Don't put too much thought into it; Lynch didn't. None of it adds up, yet according to those who find no fault with the show, that is part of an amazing and bold anti-narrative. No, not this. It's just basic "plot shit" that was thrown on the page and screen with very little care or convic...

Re: Twin Peaks Return: The Profoundly Disappointed Support Group (SPOILERS)

I always took this comment as a wry statement on the male sexual urge, which was always there in Twin Peaks for sure - for good and for very bad! Isn't this line staged in such a way that Cole is well aware that it makes him look out of step with modern times? Its partly self-mocking but also possi...

Re: Twin Peaks Return: The Profoundly Disappointed Support Group (SPOILERS)

^^Yes, I'm not saying it's a huge deal, but I almost never spot goofs. The fact that I spotted several in this show confirms for me, maybe not some others, that not enough time and care went into crafting this show on page or on set, and the results are on screen. As for this "not gone soft&quo...

Re: The Straight Story

I adore this movie, went to it four times in its original run, even though three of them were at a terrible theater where like 20% of it was shown on the curtains because they couldn't get their projection right. Then it was shown four years ago locally as part of a Lynch retrospective, in 35mm even...

Re: David Lynch and Hannibal Lecter

Too lurid? Considering some of his work, I can't believe he thought that novel was too lurid, or considered it a bad thing. I loved that novel, and the idea of Lynch having done it is very interesting.

Robin Davies wrote:Where are these "cast and crew trailers"?

In the shot from the front of the car as Cooper drives Janey-E to the casino, before the cut to Dern at the bar, they pass what are clearly three cast trailers on the left of the screen. That's the way trailers are lined up on film sets.

Re: Twin Peaks Return: The Profoundly Disappointed Support Group (SPOILERS)

There, that’s what I’ve been failing to articulate. And that’s my response to any TR fan who now comments here: would you still be saying that if the exact same show had been made by Tarantino? No, really. Some fans won’t be able to answer that honestly, or even allow themselves to ask it. Some mig...

Re: Twin Peaks Return: The Profoundly Disappointed Support Group (SPOILERS)

The Vegas thing you reference as a negative I admittedly didn't notice...but I like it. Because as many people pointed out in countless examples, Lynch is often interested in showing the seams of this production, and part of my thesis of the layers of the show has to do with the constant and increa...

Re: Twin Peaks Return: The Profoundly Disappointed Support Group (SPOILERS)

I refuse to believe that anyone who is a fan of original Twin Peaks wasn't disappointed that out of 18 hours we got 15 minutes of Cooper being Cooper. There is no way that didn't let you down. Yes, absolutely that was a letdown, especially considering that when he comes back, he mostly interacts wi...

Re: Kyle MacLachlan sounding far less optimistic about more Twin Peaks

What would they do in any follow-up? They already turned the original series inside out, so would they do the same thing to "Return"? If "Return" is in many facets the opposite of the original, if a follow-up were the opposite of that, would it be more like traditional "TP&q...

Re: Twin Peaks Return: The Profoundly Disappointed Support Group (SPOILERS)

The conversation has been badly derailed by a single person going on a sexist rant, followed by by TP:TR defenders saying that's what all the criticism is. We're way too far from the lack of plot, paper thin characters, hours of wasted scenes, plot inconsistencies, lack of atmosphere, lack of resol...

Re: Twin Peaks Return: The Profoundly Disappointed Support Group (SPOILERS)

Oh, get off the PC-tinged indignation about comments on the actors' looks. Some people have over analyzed every single bit of this show, even stuff that doesn't deserve it, and you would deny that the faded looks of the female and male actors is part of that, the passage of time? Fenn looks horrible...

Re: Twin Peaks Return: The Profoundly Disappointed Support Group (SPOILERS)

What did I hate the most ? Good question, thank you for (not) asking. Except for the overall nonsense I will say Laura Dern. Her character is unpleasant, useless and looks like an old call girl, yikes. Sherilyn Fenn's acting is quite bad too, but she's got less screen time than the other hag, thank...
