Re: Twin Peaks Premiered on ABC 32 Years Ago Today

I was watching. I was only 13, and my only exposure to Lynch had been from watching *Elephant Man* several times as a kid (though I wasn't familiar with his name or other work). The tantalizing commercials for the show made me very interested to watch it, as did a review in the local paper that said...

Yeah, I saw INLAND in 4K yesterday, and it was very much in line with LateReg’s description. Background details like flowers and trees are still blurry, all the jagged digital edges are still there. But less crushed blacks, more balance and nuance, and some great detail in all those extreme closeup...

It's funny that Lynch and Spielberg are the two directors whose movies I've been to the most individual times in the theater - 30 for Lynch and 31 for Spielberg, whether that was first-run or a classic showing (and of course a bunch of repeat viewings). I'm not overly big on Spielberg, especially no...

Interesting. I wonder how it came to pass. I wouldn't anticipate it being more than a one-scene role. It's not impossible that this might win an Oscar, which hypothetically would make it the only film he's ever been involved with to win an Oscar. Spielberg hasn't made a good movie since "A.I.&q...

Re: Mulholland Drive announced as one of Criterion's first 4K titles

Does anybody know if/when this is getting a theatrical re-release in the U.S.? It would most likely just be a one- or two-day thing at theaters, is my assumption - not a full re-release.

Re: Why exactly did ABC treat the show so badly?

It was indeed. I wasn’t an original Peaks viewer, but I certainly remember 1990s TV. A simple blackout or brownout in your neighborhood meant that your TV and VCR were out of commission and you missed an episode and were hopelessly lost forever, if it was a serialized show! It was very frustrating....

Re: Season 4? Or is it over after this?

Yeah, I believe others have independently verified the PW listing (although I personally am not going to pay their hefty subscription fee). But the biggest thing for me is the public federal US copyright filing Lynch made for 13 scripts of something entitled ‘Unrecorded Night.’ There is no disputin...

This is likely pretty well known to board members, but if not, I'd recommend "Abre los ojos" which was the basis for "Vanilla Sky". "Vanilla" is probably the closest remake of an original film story that I've ever come across. It's almost scene for scene. So when people...

Re: Season 4? Or is it over after this?

I pop in and out as far as tracking the non-news on this potential project. Question: Do you guys still think it's possible that this is all just a bunch of rumors and fakery, or is it 100% that a project is or was planned? I'm aware of the Production Weekly listing that was shown by one person, but...

Re: BBC names Mulholland Drive "Best Film of 21st Century"

I don't think it's his best work, but it is his most entertaining and emotionally accessible work, so I think that's why it attracts the most approval. You don't find *Blue Velvet* or his two biographical movies to be more emotionally accessible? I find the characters in this totally stunted becaus...

Re: Why exactly did ABC treat the show so badly?

Was it a struggle for a second season to be greenlit, meaning were they in danger of it being cancelled after the first season? I watched it as it aired and vaguely recall after the first season it being a question whether it would come back that Fall. However, I could be misremembering it. I used t...

Re: BBC names Mulholland Drive "Best Film of 21st Century"

Sometimes I feel like I must be watching a different movie from others when I watch this. The overwhelming praise, both from non-Lynch fans and Lynch fans who put it at the top of his films, doesn't fit the film, in my view. On the new favorite films thread on this board, most people put it as Lynch...

Re: Peaks Fans Top 15 Movies

If I had to name a "favorite" movie, it might be Blue Velvet . Eraserhead would probably be my second Lynch with the rest constantly shifting including Mulholland which I actually feel is his worst . Some other "favorite" movies in no particular order would be: Dawn of the Dead 2...

Re: To the Profoundly Disappointed: Are You Still Disappointed?

I was in the "profoundly disappointed" camp for most of the start of the show. I got into the groove for a while but turned out still pretty disappointed. I chose number 5 but could easily say 6 or 7. Even though I rewatched most of the parts during the run two or more times, I haven't don...
