Re: For Those Who Were (Mostly) Disappointed with The Return

The Return feels more to me like Lynch fingerpainting than swinging for a Mona Lisa. It will take quite a lot to convince me this isn't the case. You see these praises around how, since it was written as a whole, S3 is this cohesive story. When asking well then what is the story, the responses are ...

Re: To the Profoundly Disappointed: Are You Still Disappointed?

Imo, there's no such thing as over-interpretation. But over-explanation is out of control and at times actively cheapens the text. Under-explanation is even worse. When every interpretation is equal - even the results of a clearly disturbed minds - and there is no story, purpose or meaning actually...

Re: To the Profoundly Disappointed: Are You Still Disappointed?

I feel it is so bleak and mean spirited to their babies, these characters they loved. I don't think they did love them. Both Lynch and Forst walked away from the show during the original run, and Lynch repeatedly said over the years that Twin Peaks is dead and he has nothing to add. They only watch...

Marvelous! This is how I feel reading theories and speculation about S3. If, like, 1% of this stuff actually had any base on anything that happened on screen I might have enjoyed S3 more.

Mr. C got played by everyone he interacted with, didn't even know what he was looking for and walked straight into a trap. He was not highly intelligent, nor was he any kind of threat at all.

Re: To the Profoundly Disappointed: Are You Still Disappointed?

BTW, I see the total number of votes is relatively low compared to the traffic in the disappointed group four years ago, and I guess most people have just moved on. I wish I could. I mean, it's borderline unhealthy for me to continue feeling so dissappointed and betrayed by S3. Twin Peaks is so imp...

Re: Dated Product Placement in TPTR

Worth noting, though, that Skype and Skype for Business are two different things. SfB used be Lynx. Microsoft rebranded it as Skype for Business after they bought Skype. The consumer Skype is still fine and relevant even though SfB is being shut down, replaced by Teams.

Great, so it's satire. Nice. It still robbed us of having agent Cooper in a Twin Peaks series. It's still a waste.

Re: To the Profoundly Disappointed: Are You Still Disappointed?

I am. There is no plot, the characters are irrelevant and the connections to earlier Twin Peaks tenuous at best. I remain convinced Lynch just wanted to do his own art project about Dougie and to get the budget, he scibbled the words "Twin Peaks" on the cover of the pitch.

Re: The biggest problem with The Return - the fear/mystery element largely missing?

I don't think digital was the problem, it was rehashing old material. The good part of Season 3 (I acknowledge no marketing terms from Showtime) was Part 8, the purple place, etc, and used a lot of CGI and digital photography, but it was NEW, and I think Lynch was more excited about it than the old...

Re: Twin Peaks Season 3, Star Wars, JJ and Fan Service

I think ROS could have found a way to make the non-plan plan end up less of a mess. TLJ was setting up something specific: take the franchise into new territory. While taking the story into a different direction would certainly have been welcome in the trilogy, the second part of is absolutely not ...

Re: Twin Peaks Season 3, Star Wars, JJ and Fan Service

My issue with Rise of the Skywalker wasn’t that it was nostalgic, it was that its storytelling choices felt incredibly lazy. It all boils down to the fact that there was no plan for the trilogy beyond making films to get money. No one cared about the story, and thus The Last Jedi was allowed to der...

Re: Twin Peaks Season 3, Star Wars, JJ and Fan Service

everything I’m reading indicates that the sequel trilogy essentially cancels itself out because Johnson tried to go one direction and Abrams just overrode all that in the new film. It’s baffling, and makes the whole thing kind of pointless in retrospect. Well, it's more like Abrams went one way in ...

Anyone can write a mystery story if they don't have to come up with any of the answers.
