Re: OLD PEAKS v NEW PEAKS. CHOOSE YOUR FATE.

Which one I would bring with me to a desert island and which one I think is better are two different things.

Re: 11-Disc 'Works on Film' Japanese Blu-Ray Box Set 8/10/17

I'm currently in Japan and pre-ordered this the other day. Should have it in a week or two, and will post something here when I've had time to go through it.

Excited to finally own Inland Empire, especially!

Re: Season 3 was incredibly mean-spirited (spoilers)

I've been mulling it over since the finale, and you know ... I'm just not sure I agree with the title of this thread.

There are plenty of good spirits too. Like the Fireman and Dido. Maybe Mike.

Re: Part 6 - Don't die (SPOILERS)

I'm an atheist too, and I also found the scene touching! Didn't mean to imply that one had to be spiritual to find the scene moving, or to play the scene effectively (HDS could play almost anything convincingly!). I guess the scene particularly stood out to me because much of HDS's material in this...

Re: Part 6 - Don't die (SPOILERS)

Great thoughts from your revisit! Want to touch on a couple. So many phenomenal Dougie moments in this one. The look of boyish wonder when he stands in the elevator (although I still question the mechanics of why the doors keep opening), the smile of adoration when he hears Jade's name, the stern &q...

Re: "I mean it like it sounds, like it is."

I mean, yeah. In the original run, it really does sound like Mike is talking about an ordinary room above a convenience store, and nothing in Fire Walk With Me contradicts this. The presentation in season three may feel different from that implication, but it still involves an actual convenience sto...

Re: Twin Peaks: Season 3 on Blu-ray 12/5/17

Dang. I'd grown rather fond of The Return and all its implications as a subtitle. It also made sense because it felt like a separate piece of art set within this world (as well as being a continuation), alongside Fire Walk With Me . But I'll drop it now, if it was introducing implications Frost and ...

Re: Numerology in TP:TR (spoilers)

I don't normally think Lynch invites viewers to breadcrumb for clues/patterns on this level (sorry, internet theorists), but I think The Return might be a genuine case of it, the way its numerology is highlighted. Looking at the sums and the range provided from 10 to 6 is really interesting. Does th...

Re: Works That Influenced Twin Peaks: The Return

@cipher. Can't see Beckett. The cyclical dialogue-driven hell of Audrey's scenes doesn't bring up Beckett as easily as Bunuel for you? The circumstance is Exterminating Angel , but the way the frustration is expressed through oblique and repetitive dialogue ain't. Beckett's more in love with langua...

Re: Works That Influenced Twin Peaks: The Return

Re: Above: Bunuel for sure. And then writers like Kafka and Beckett. I'm not sure if the similarities between Lynch's stuff and Godard's have ever been intentional, and the latter is a lot more aggressive and political, but there are a lot of serendipitous similarities in their works -- the pacing o...

Re: Twin Peaks Return: The Profoundly Disappointed Support Group (SPOILERS)

You've dropped a bomb on me above that I'm unfortunately not much able to respond to beyond saying that I think we're basically on the same page in believing that, if the Bob scene is to be taken as something that works, it must have an intentional element of dissatisfaction to it for one reason or ...

Re: Poll: Do You Understand Now Why S.F. was pissed about her role in The Return?

To also help steer clear of potentially unproductive territory, I'm not dissatisfied with the version we got (I'm not sure I love it as an ending for that character, but it's certainly not a bone I have to pick with the season), nor mad at Fenn. Disputes and creative changes happen all the time duri...

Re: The "We live inside a dream" theory

This might actually make for a satisfying interpretation in my book. It doesn't negate any one timeline or another as "not real," it doesn't require us to view the series as partly or mostly taking place inside the mind of Cooper, Cole, Jeffries, Monica Bellucci, or anybody else, and it p...

Re: So is there anyone else who prefers The Return to the original?

That's a completely fair take, and I think one largely aligned with my own. I didn't meant to single out your interpretation -- or anyone's -- but rather to invoke a chain of reactions that seemed to think the scene was intended to play over the characters' heads, or that the sentiment conveyed by t...

Re: Twin Peaks The Return: The Mixed/Moderately Disappointed Thread

IMO "What did this contribute to the plot?" is the wrong way to look at the Las Vegas scenes. They're in there because they contain moments of staggering beauty via Dougie's glimpses of self-assertion and lucidity, and they don't really need any more reason to exist than that. I'm unlikely...
