Sorry if I'm missing something, but is your disbelief suspended or not?
as the actress said to the bishop. [ or vice versa]

Re: Twin Peaks Return: The Profoundly Disappointed Support Group (SPOILERS)

anotherbluerosecase - Narrative artists fucking with this are playing a riskier game than I suspect many realise, and had better have some tasty Big Fish cooked for us to make it worth it. Hats off to Lynch if he pulls it off. the thing is, when i watch a film by lynch, my ' suspension of disbelief'...

Re: Twin Peaks Return: The Profoundly Disappointed Support Group (SPOILERS)

@ counterpaul I just think surrealism is an extremely useful lens through which to view his work. Yeah i agree and would like to see someone write about him and bunuel in the same breath, if you watch something like ' the phantom of liberty ' it has the same combination of goofiness and really stupi...

Re: Twin Peaks Return: The Profoundly Disappointed Support Group (SPOILERS)

Counterpaul writes: Surrealist imagery is not about substitution, it's about getting at something deeply truthful by bypassing rational thought. A successful surrealist image, ideally, could not possibly take any other form and be as truthful. The point is to depict emotional truth using the tools ...

Re: Twin Peaks Return: The Profoundly Disappointed Support Group (SPOILERS)

i just read back through this thread. the main criticisms that relate to series 1/2 seem to be - characters not as warm and sympathetic ( as series 1 /2 ) music not as good ( as series 1 and 2 ) not enough use of the town of Twin Peaks / original cast members / continuity from S 1 & 2 criticisms...

AnotherBlueRoseCase » The exchange above is one of the very few times I've gone near the suggestion that this is being mis-sold as Twin Peaks......you'll only see complaints about the quality, the smelly maggoty thing we've been sold. i can see why people would say why it is not Twin Peaks or mis-s...

Re: Twin Peaks Return: The Profoundly Disappointed Support Group (SPOILERS)

@another blue rose case. In my local town there is a big argument at the moment whether they want a new supermarket or not. The people that do say that they want more choice. But when you actually ask them, what do you want to buy in this shop that you can't already buy in existing shops? they can't...

Re: Twin Peaks Return: The Profoundly Disappointed Support Group (SPOILERS)

But I would argue that this process is deeply and genuinely surreal, in the original Bretonian sense. Surrealism isn't really about result. Surrealism is a process. Breton's idea in the first manifesto (before politics started to explicitly intervene in the second) was that the act of evoking the i...

Re: Twin Peaks Return: The Profoundly Disappointed Support Group (SPOILERS)

In fact, I can't see reading the entire bomb/Woodsmen/Experiment section any way but that it's all following directly, even causally, from COOPER's death/rebirth (or near-death). it relates - causally rather than casually - in as much as when a character is killed and then comes back to life there ...

Re: Twin Peaks Return: The Profoundly Disappointed Support Group (SPOILERS)

This discussion about the orb scene. It seems to me that Lynch nicks/ borrows/ uses alot of stuff he finds lying about, or that comes under his attentive gaze, whether that be images, or bits or other films, or conspiracy theories, or actors. He is quite expedient, and his approach is quite collage ...

Re: Twin Peaks Return: The Profoundly Disappointed Support Group (SPOILERS)

contrapaul I may seem to be contradicting myself, but there is another way to look at it. my guess is yin/yang. A meaningless student poster on a wall? A model to live by? no - a convenient frame for a film-maker to shoehorn alot of things into, and let other people make up their minds. look here's ...
