Re: Twin Peaks Return: The Profoundly Disappointed Support Group (SPOILERS)

 Minus being a musician, Dougie acts exactly like Ronnie Rocket. They both only speak to mimic the last word or two someone else says. Ronnie even turns into a gold pebble at the end. the thing about that is that Ronnie Rocket was just one movie - the joke only had to keep going for a couple o...

Re: Twin Peaks Return: The Profoundly Disappointed Support Group (SPOILERS)

Also see: Auteur theory. I completely agree that there is a wealth of Lynch self-reference in TR but not quite sure how this can be construed as 'nostalgic'. To take Ronnie Rocket as an example. This is heavily referenced in TR, but it's from an unfilmed script as far as I'm aware. This might be no...

the world is collapsing around my ears I listen to the radio but i can't hear it.

I paused in a rewatch of TP3 to watch some trash TV and there was an episode of New York Special Victims Unit with the advising surgeon played by the same actor who played the Winkies guy in Mulholland Drive. [moderators, please feel free to delete this thread. But it is strange when Lynch starts le...

Re: After Kyle, who was the best actor?

This poll maybe points to one of the problems, or imbalances, with this series. ( I can't be clear about this because I haven't rewatched it as a whole, this was just my week-by-week impression). The first TP was an ensemble piece, you got to spend quite abit of time with each of a central core of c...

Rialto What you haven't included in the quote is that I was replying to a previous poster. ah sorry. Understood. Sorry about the 'man' also - It was more of a colloquial hippy flourish that an assumption of gender. I still don't agree with this as a criticism of Lynch's work though: ''There's a tend...

Re: Season 3 structures and mechanisms [SPOILERS]

Is this something that you are saying? That far from being 'abstraction' in the sense of moving away from experience, Lynch's way with narrative is actually close, in a phenomenological, lived sense, to the reality of our conscious experience? I can get behind this idea, in any case. yes, i think t...

Re: Calling all who think the original timeline is still intact

Also, the scenes of Josie/Pete are intentionally cut into the middle of the scenes where Cooper is leading Laura to salvation, yet fails to actually do so. I see those scenes as what "could have been" or "what was starting to transpire," before Laura was snatched away and Cooper...

Re: Season 3 structures and mechanisms [SPOILERS]

What do others mean by 'abstraction'? Who has used this term on the forum, especially in relation to Twin Peaks, and can have a go at putting it into other words? the word appears in the post above mine, your own post, in a quote from Mr Reindeer. It doesn't really matter. It just seemed like an od...

Re: Season 3 structures and mechanisms [SPOILERS]

OK. Will someone explain to me what they mean talking about this series, by ' abstracttion' For me it is relentlessly literal and concrete ( in terms of what you are actually shown), the only difference to normal TV is that you are not told how to think about it or interpret. But what is actually th...

Re: So is there anyone else who prefers The Return to the original?

there is a basic difference between the series 27 years ago and the one now that is worth drawing attention to.

27 years ago the cast were young and hot. Now several people are dead and many of the rest are pensionable or semi-retired. That alone might suggest a shift in perspective.

Re: Season 3 structures and mechanisms [SPOILERS]

Further to the above ( i give it a separate post because it is a separate thought ) You could almost compare the overall structure of TP3 to ' musical chairs' (Novalis' Mayoshka dolls again) - it starts off with all these different elements dotted about different locations and a bafflingly large arr...
