Re: Twin Peaks Return: The Profoundly Disappointed Support Group (SPOILERS)

Well, I've only been here a month, but I think it's time to take my leave. I've said pretty much all I have to say about the show, and I think it's time to move on. I would like to extend my thanks, not only to my fellow Profoundly Disappointed, but also to those posters who could genuinely loved th...

Re: Twin Peaks Return: The Profoundly Disappointed Support Group (SPOILERS)

I've seen quite a few folks out there speculating on where season 4 will go. I don't know what makes them so optimistic. There will never be a 4th season (thankfully). The viewing figures were... let's just say that the appeal of Twin Peaks, to quote Ian Faith, has become "more selective"....

Re: Twin Peaks Return: The Profoundly Disappointed Support Group (SPOILERS)

It's probably bad form to quote oneself, but what the hell... One of the more interesting concepts in that season was that, according to Jacques Renault, Cooper "brought the nightmare with him". This was a fascinating idea, and should have been explored properly. Cooper was our protagonist...

Re: Twin Peaks Return: The Profoundly Disappointed Support Group (SPOILERS)

Just popped over to welcometotwinpeaks.com and I can see, probably for the first time ever, a large number of dissenting voices. Maybe a few of the good folks over there held out for longer that I did, but have now reached the conclusion that yes, the whole show, in the end, amounted to less than no...

Re: Twin Peaks Return: The Profoundly Disappointed Support Group (SPOILERS)

So, I've been avoiding this forum today until I had the chance to watch the finale (I do it after work on Monday - can't stay up 'til stupid o'clock to watch it live) and so that I could come to my own conclusions. However, it is with a heavy heart that I can say that I absolutely agree with everyth...

Re: Twin Peaks Return: The Profoundly Disappointed Support Group (SPOILERS)

Well, here we are. Less than 24 hours away from the finale and I think most of the posters on this thread are approaching it with a mixture of sadness and relief. Relief because we are free of this bizarre purgatory in which we are compelled to stay with the show until the bitter end, and sadness be...

Re: Twin Peaks Return: The Profoundly Disappointed Support Group (SPOILERS)

(incredibly thoughtful, well-written analysis snipped) ...not that the opinions of others should determine ours, but let's remember that Kubrick -- one of the most accomplished and lauded directors of all time -- apparently considered Eraserhead his favorite film, as of the early '80s. Your implied...

Re: Twin Peaks Return: The Profoundly Disappointed Support Group (SPOILERS)

I would love a season 4. After this, they need to redeem themselves! I still have faith in Lynch as a director. I think he is more interesting that most other directors, even when he is not at the top of his game at this point. Improve the show's visuals, get some interesting central mystery as wel...

Re: Twin Peaks Return: The Profoundly Disappointed Support Group (SPOILERS)

While Blue Velvet may be his most personal, and therefore authentic, work, I belive that MD was sourced from a similar place. Very interesting that you consider BV his most personal. While it is a terrific film with personal things in it (the fantasy of hiding in a woman's closet and seeing a myste...

Re: Twin Peaks Return: The Profoundly Disappointed Support Group (SPOILERS)

Perhaps his has already been addressed, but I didn't have time to respond yesterday when you first brought this up and I wanted to get one in while I had time. I've already posted here or elsewhere that I think that nostalgia is a huge part of not only The Return, but of enjoying it as well. I don'...

Re: Twin Peaks Return: The Profoundly Disappointed Support Group (SPOILERS)

With the demise of Chantal and Hutch, I'm left wondering - has Lynch been waiting since 1994 to let us know he's not that keen on Tarantino? Honestly, what was the point of these two except to carry out acts of pointless violence, bitch about fast food, then get dispatched in an over the top shower...

Re: Twin Peaks Return: The Profoundly Disappointed Support Group (SPOILERS)

Being honestly engaged with the Dougie saga and what it was trying to do does not mean I never wanted Coop back at all. I knew he'd be back and I felt pretty early on I dug what Lynch was going for in the Being There /Jacques Tati/etc. vein with Dougie and his cosmic hobo journey. I felt it was ess...

Re: Twin Peaks Return: The Profoundly Disappointed Support Group (SPOILERS)

When Lost Highway came out I seem to remember there being a lot of talk about the Balthazar Getty character going through a psychogenic fugue state (think it was that character, apols if got the wrong one!). Is this entire series Audrey's fugue state and her way of working out who she is? I believe...

Re: Twin Peaks Return: The Profoundly Disappointed Support Group (SPOILERS)

Good illustration of what I was just saying : unfaire subective criticism. There's no point in watching a show when questioning ALL of its artistic choice. At this point, you would have had better cool off, take a break and see the whole thing later. I love the show but this comment is unfair. This...
