Re: Let's talk about MIKE

Well you yourself covered most of the objections to that simplification. I have seen that video and it would be nice if was a smooth fit to make it that simple. But I do feel like some rough edges are cut when trying to force that, which, may simply be the fact that we are looking at the work of man...

Re: The Tremonds

See I absolutely don't like the idea that the Grandson has anything explicitly to do with Leland. I've seen the same video though, but I don't find it particularly convincing. The reason I don't like it is because I don't like the attempt to tie everything back to the same few characters, Laura, Lel...

Episode 10

My notes on Episode 10, or Episode 11 including the Pilot, or Season 2 Episode 3, also called "The Man Behind Glass". Unmarked spoilers below. The beginning of this episode has always confused me. How did the killer get in to put a letter under Ronette's fingernail when Truman explicitly s...

Re: Twin Peaks: The Missing Pieces - analysis/thoughts etc

Yes, I was going to add, how does the way Lynch took the direction of Bob in the last episode of the series fit with our attempt to reconcile the two portrayals--the more heavy-handed possession angle of the show and the much more insidious, parasitical corruption of the film--where we see Bob get b...

Sex, drugs and magazines

Could someone please be so kind as to refresh my memory, or perhaps connect the dots for me, on some of the clues in the early parts of the show, such as the Pilot and Season 1 and how these details relate to the film Fire Walk With Me. Namely, where did the $10,000 dollars Laura had in her safety d...

Re: Part 3 of Journey Through Twin Peaks: The Whole Damned T

Yeah it's funny I am now at that part in the series while showing a friend Twin Peaks and I, of course, warned them that show does drop off in quality and many of the B, C and D plots take center stage and are pretty ridiculous. But it's amazing how much of it I do actually enjoy in a weird way just...

Re: Twin Peaks: The Missing Pieces - analysis/thoughts etc

the ring may convey understanding of the relationship between victim and victimizer (this ties in to both the idea of a ring as a "circle," golden in the case of Cooper's ring, and also the use of Cooper's ring on the show as a token of his own comprehension) I think that is a great way o...

Re: Twin Peaks: The Missing Pieces - analysis/thoughts etc

Hey LostInTheMovies, you know I just noticed that when Teresa is murdered by Leland in the trailer, she is *not*wearing the Ring, and whats more it is like she deliberately holds her hands up to show us that, like how Lynch has her hand obscured by the ice cube trays in the motel scene. I had always...

Episode 9

The German fan title for this episode is "Coma". The Barbershop Quartette in the background provides more fun little bizarre “Lynchian” window dressing to the scene. All the directors seem to enjoy staging quirky little events or conventions going on in the background, but I feel Lynch alw...

Re: Dugpas

Yeah it is such a brief throwaway line and no connection or explanation is given in the script. Plus it makes me somewhat uncomfortable becase dugpas are a real world thing, but are just a sect of Tibetan Buddhism and not at all "evil sorcerers". Because there is no explicit origin given f...

Re: Why doesn't Cooper speak backwards in the Black Lodge?

What if the creaky hallways and empty rooms "above the convenience store" are Laura's version of the Red Room, the way SHE sees the Lodge? Just wanted to add have you noticed that the dilapidated floral wallpaper in those creaky rooms Laura passes through in her dream with Mrs. Tremond an...

Re: Breaking the fourth wall?

I love the whole idea of this thread. I love these kinds of conversations. Just wanted to add that there is another moment of breaking the fourth wall in Episode 13, where Mike/Philip Gerard is talking about who can see Bob's true face and says, "the gifted" and, looking straight at the ca...

Re: The Dweller on the Threshold, the Lodges, Theosophy, etc

Ronette - who has been established throughout the film as the narrative manifestation of Laura's "good side" - is redeemed speaks volumes. It's surprising to me that you identify Ronette as the manifestation of Laura's good side. I had always thought that in the film, Donna was the manife...

Re: Leland/Maddy scene in episode 9

It still really bugs me that Cooper never connects the line from his dream about how "she's my cousin, but doesn't she look almost exactly like Laura Palmer" to Maddy's appearance in town or take any precautions with protecting her or even interview her. It's the same kind of weird way tha...
