Re: One year later - how are we feeling?

1) I think "We live inside a dream" is the mission statement of the series. 2) I think "Who is the dreamer?" is the show's biggest question. 3) I think "the dreamer" is the audience. Interesting. The other day, I was reading an essay a guy named Kenneth George Godwin w...

Re: One year later - how are we feeling?

Peyton in particular certainly brought a ‘His Girl Friday’ snappiness to the dialogue that I particulary missed in the new show when Albert was onscreen. It’s for sure an ingredient that was missing from the new recipe, but I’m ok with that, partly because my favorite of DKL’s works tend to be the o...

Julee Cruis interview: https://pitchfork.com/thepitch/julee-cruise-is-not-to-be-messed-with-interview/amp/ She doesn’t elaborate on whatever her issue was with the new show, aside from saying that DKL can throw temper tantrums. She generally speaks positively of him and refers to him as an older bro...

Re: One year later - how are we feeling?

I don’t know why some people are so quick to dismiss Lynch’s writing abilities. As others have pointed out, most of his best-regarded works were written by him solo (BV, MD, Eraserhead). Comparing the Episode 8 script to the episode as shot is a fascinating case study: aside from the two big monolog...

Re: Episode 12

File under Never Noticed Credits: Van Dyke Parks, the legendary writer of the Beach Boys' lost Smile album--lost at least until 2011--appears in this episode. Not knowing what he looks like, I had to look up who he played. None other than Leo Johnson's attorney. Strange casting choice. I wonder if ...

Re: Lost vs. Twin Peaks - A Comparison

I think part of the problem with the final season is that Lindelof & Cuse felt too much pressure to deal with the mythology end of things, due to the puzzle-box cult that had risen around the show. Really, all that stuff at its best was just a prism through which to explore elements of the chara...

Re: Top of the Lake v.2 compared to TPTR (spoilers)

Yeh, I guess part of it is that I liked Mary a lot thanks to the performance, and really wanted her to be smarter than continually remaining with someone who treated her like garbage. But as you say, that frustration in seeing an otherwise strong, smart woman be manipulated by a sleazy guy into an a...

I’ve freeze framed most of that sequence and never saw that. Screenshot? Or timestamp at least?

Re: Top of the Lake v.2 compared to TPTR (spoilers)

I found TotL:CG much more disappointing than TP:TR. It started off promising—the first couple of episodes had a fantastic sustained mood, and I applaud Campion for doing a completely different, urban thing rather than trying to recapture lightning in a bottle. Most of my issues lie with the script, ...

Re: The Straight Story

Obscure piece of DKL repeat-casting I wasn’t aware of: Apple (the bespectacled hardware store townie) is played by Jack Walsh — who is credited as Raymond Walsh in Eraserhead for playing “Mr. Roundheels,” the Beautiful Girl Across the Hall’s briefly-glimped lover.

Re: Lynch to release memior 'Room To Dream: A Life In Art'.

The audiobook has DKL doing a few semi-impressions when he quotes people, including a charming impression of Jack Nance for the “Get in the stall, horseface” story. His impression of his dad calling him and his brother home at night is also really great. He also reveals a piece of trivia I’d never h...
