Re: Twin Peaks Return: The Profoundly Satisfied Support Group (SPOILERS)

Or, he's there precisely to prevent Cooper from having a much-needed confrontation, so he can avoid facing his issues and can continue making the same mistakes, which he promptly does... Bingo; that was my takeaway also. I hadn’t thought of it, but I love this interpretation. This is the first pers...

Re: What Other Directors/Actors Think of Season 3

Good point, however we do have the luxury of the exact same thing happening when Lucas went back to the well himself for episode 1-3. Fans tried to claim ownership when what Lucas came up with didn't live up to what they'd expected or wanted. That was a different situation, though. We’re discussing...

Re: Part 5 - Case files (SPOILERS)

Just before Lt. Knox enters Col. Davis’s office, an offscreen female voice (which I am 65% certain is Sheryl Lee) says, “You can go in now,” echoing Laura’s “You can go out now” and Jeffries’s “You can go in now,” both spoken to Dale. Hmm. Charlotte asks Richard (who has Black Lodge lineage), “Can I...

Re: Twin Peaks Return: The Profoundly Disappointed Support Group (SPOILERS)

Hopefully not wandering too far off topic...I liked The Last Jedi (I’ve liked all three of the new films for different reasons, although Rogue One was by far my favorite). It subverted some of the series tropes in very interesting ways before settling in and doing exactly what you expected it to do ...

Re: Season 4? Or is it over after this?

The inclusion of BTS footage of Lynch getting frustrated in the Blu Ray set seems rather pointed. I'm sure Lynch could have easily vetoed any of it being included. The vast majority of the frustration we are allowed to see him express has to do with scheduling, and it was particularly notable when ...

Alternatively, he’s been out of the business for so long because none of his films made any money that his abilities have regressed and his work is no longer worth looking at. He’s been out of the business because he hasn’t had ideas he liked enough to turn into films. All of his films have been pr...

Re: Twin Peaks Return: The Profoundly Disappointed Support Group (SPOILERS)

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: in terms of pacing, style and narrative structure, this season felt closer to Eraserhead than anything DKL has done in between the two works. My impression is that this represents DKL returning to his true, unfiltered vision after many years of compromise —...

Re: What Other Directors/Actors Think of Season 3

Rian Johnson Yes. He just retweeted something Season 3-related last week Also, he dressed as Dougie for Halloween: https://twitter.com/rianjohnson/status/924526559217643521 So his casting of Laura Dern in a brightly colored wig in the new Star Wars WAS a TP tribute. Knew it. ;) (Kidding, I’m sure i...

Re: Twin Peaks: Season 3 on Blu-ray 12/5/17

DKL has a reputation as both a highly collaborative artist willing to listen to ideas from anyone, and as an uncompromising perfectionist singularly devoted to his personal vision. I don’t think the two are mutually exclusive: like all of us, he’s a complex human being. More than one actor he’s work...

Re: Twin Peaks: Season 3 on Blu-ray 12/5/17

I think the chocolate bunnies bit is hilarious! Watch it again and look at Andy's and Hawk's expressions throughout the scene (especially Andy's look when Lucy is describing the bubble of gas and Hawk when he asks Lucy if she ate the evidence). And Andy saying, 'This is HERE...' I get why it’s supp...

Re: Twin Peaks Return: The Profoundly Satisfied Support Group (SPOILERS)

I remember that article, but I never interpreted it that way. At the time, I thought he just meant that he won't be making 2 to 3 hour movies that air on TV as opposed to the cinema. He'd rather make longer stuff if he's working on TV. I never viewed what he said as the distinction between a featur...

The original series also bounced back and forth on whether TP was in the east or west of the state.

Re: Twin Peaks Return: The Profoundly Satisfied Support Group (SPOILERS)

Also, while he has called this work a “film,” he has specified that it is NOT a “feature,” which is apparently what he calls more conventional-length theatrical movies — a pretty arbitrary semantic distinction IMO, but it is telling as to his mental state about where this work lies in the pantheon....

Re: Do we know when Carl's Fat Trout Trailer Park was established in/near Twin Peaks?

IIRC, TSHoTP seems to imply that Fat Trout was always just outside TP, contradicting FWWM, as well as the Pilot, which places Theresa’s murder in the south of the state whereas TP is of course on the Canadian border. The series is ambiguous on whether or not Fat Trout has changed locations, aside fr...

Btw, the Chromatics song brought to mind the iconic Laura homecoming photo, and the fact that her friends and boyfriends have moved on, as we do over time: “And now you’re just a stranger’s dream / I took your picture from the frame.”
