Re: Twin Peaks: The Complete Television Collection (Paramount) 10/15/19

It’s certainly fair to say that some films where the directors were initially unable to fully realize their vision merit, even demand, director’s cuts, and Blade Runner and Apocalypse Now are two examples. I agree that the recut versions of both films surpass the theatrical cuts. Dune would be anoth...

Re: Twin Peaks: The Complete Television Collection (Paramount) 10/15/19

If that footage of Ben killing Maddy ever did get found, I'm like 1000% sure a collector or crew member would have leaked it by now. That's sort of the holy grail of Twin Peaks lost footage and Lynch would neeeever authorize its release (hell, he'd probably order its immediate destruction). Pray fo...

Will definitely be picking this up! Always great to see Mark getting his due, and I always enjoy hearing him talk about his process and influences.

Re: Special Effects in Season 3

BR2049 is in some ways a spiritual cousin to TP:TR, as a sequel that spends much of its runtime as a mood piece focused on new characters and settings, expanding the world, but also honors the original characters several decades on in a beautiful way. I need to revisit that movie, or more ideally, w...

Re: Special Effects in Season 3

It’s been a few months since I last watched TR. I want to go back and rewatch the “young Laura” scenes in light of this conversation, because I think conversations on here with LateReg and others in the past gave me more appreciation for another effects sequence I’m still not wild about (green glove...

Re: Twin Peaks: The Complete Television Collection (Paramount) 10/15/19

The only things that could get me truly excited for this set, if it is indeed even planned, are the inclusion of any previously unreleased deleted scenes (it seems like 97% of what was shot made it into TP:TR, but there are certainly a few odds and ends we haven’t seen, like the Fireman in the Red R...

Re: Season 4? Or is it over after this?

Certainly Lynch said when finished the third season that if there was a fourth Season, It would four years since 2017. It would be 2021. It was said BY LYNCH. I don’t have the exact quote in front of me, but I believe what he said is it would be a MINIMUM of four years. I.e., if he started writing ...

Re: Season 4? Or is it over after this?

I really don’t get people’s desire to set arbitrary deadlines for L/F. When has Lynch ever done anything predictable? The last announcement was on a completely random date, presumably when they finalized the deal. An announcement could happen tomorrow, or in twelve years, or not at all. There’s no s...

Re: Season 4? Or is it over after this?

This isn’t much of anything, but in a recent interview themed around the concept of “home,” the reporter tries to get Lynch to open up about the end of P18, and he echoes something similar to what he has said before: “That’s how it ends.” As with the old quote, I think he’s pretty clearly just sayin...

Re: Special Effects in Season 3

B&W is definitely kinder to effects, both practical and digital, than color is. The Eraserhead baby and the Elephant Man makeup would likely have been very different propositions in color. In terms of the “young Laura” effect, the shape of her face is indeed the most glaring tell for me. While I...

Re: Special Effects in Season 3

I’m 35. Decent guess. ;) It is interesting how most of us seemingly have two different modes of perception: what looks realistic in reality, and what looks realistic in movies and other media. Going back to the early days of cinema, a visual language was developed where certain sets/props/etc. didn’...

Re: Special Effects in Season 3

I noticed that when showing my fellow students the Frogmoth scenes, they declared it as looking fake, and I can totally understand their viewpoint when they're used to more high budget CGI. Really?! I have no hands-on experience when it comes to CGI rendering, but as an armchair spectator, I though...

Re: Special Effects in Season 3

There’s also the clearly-intentional jankiness of Phyllis getting shot (with the glitch/jump) and Duncan Todd being shot in the head. LateReg is definitely right that DKL is playing with the notion of “realistic” effects by making even traditional action movie type shots like these a little surreal....

Re: Special Effects in Season 3

I think the effects BUF did are phenomenal. The frog-moth is one of the most fully-realized creature effects I’ve seen since the Eraserhead baby. Pierre Buffin has said that Lynch took certain effects away from them to do himself, so the abstract/2D stuff that resembles 2001-era Lynch website experi...

Re: Twin Peaks: The Complete Television Collection (Paramount) 10/15/19

Maybe it’s partially owned by CBS as original scripted material, since it was produced by them for their set of the series? That’s the only thing I can think of, unless it’s just Lynch’s own preference/quirk as you say. Might be a question worth asking Charles De Lauzirika, if anyone has his ear on...
