Re: Twin Peaks Season 3, Star Wars, JJ and Fan Service

...yest completely reviled by many in the fan base. By many I think we are talking about approximately 7 very, very loud people. I should have said by 'some in the fan base'. I honestly think it's extremely difficult to measure how the existing fan base felt about Season 3. My guess is that about 8...

Re: Twin Peaks Season 3, Star Wars, JJ and Fan Service

It is interesting that the most divisive reaction to Twin Peaks The Return was from the fan base. One of the key reasons why I trust David Lynch if he decides to do a Season 4 is because he doesn't give a crap what the fans think or if the fans want more. He's going to do it if there's a new experi...

Re: Season 4? Or is it over after this?

I don't think the festival thing goes any deeper than CBS realizing they can squeeze some money out of a popular IP that has probably gained a lot of new fans over the last few years. It's possible CBS/Showtime is just trying to milk a fanatical fan base with conventions, merchandise, VR, etc., wit...

Re: Twin Peaks Season 3, Star Wars, JJ and Fan Service

It’s pretty common to bring in new, younger characters and move the older characters more in the background. Just look at every American daytime drama.

Re: Twin Peaks Season 3, Star Wars, JJ and Fan Service

So I went ahead and spoiled Rise of Skywalker and yes, it seems pretty clear major subversive points from The Last Jedi were ‘unsubverted’ based on popular demand. Which is highly inauthentic from an artistic standpoint. But, from a business standpoint, I can’t really fault Disney for what was done ...

Re: Twin Peaks Season 3, Star Wars, JJ and Fan Service

So I finally saw The Last Jedi in its entirety last night, (it is currently included with Netflix subscription). Boy was it a slog to get through, though it finally did start to click with me at the end, a little. I have just seen too many starship battles, too many laser sword (light saber) fights....

Re: Twin Peaks 30: Official Fan Celebration (Graceland)

From what I hear, not everyone was happy with the way the Festival was run. I don’t remember the exact sources of conflict but a sizable chunk of fans will be happy with this move. More importantly, my guess is that this is just one part of a strategy to roll out either a new season/movie and/or new...

Re: Twin Peaks Season 3, Star Wars, JJ and Fan Service

For me what made the prequels was Ian Mcdiarmid and the Galaxtic Senate. I really enjoyed the story of how the Republic became the Empire. The Prequels were eerie last n the way they paralleled events in the real world. I thought they were a great lesson in how democracies can because me authoritari...

Re: Twin Peaks Season 3, Star Wars, JJ and Fan Service

I did admire what The Last Jedi was trying to do, although I didn’t feel the execution was particularly successful as a standalone film or as part of the trilogy. In terms of the latter, the problem is that it feels completely disconnected from the surrounding Abrams films tonally (if the reviews o...

Re: Twin Peaks 30: Official Fan Celebration (Graceland)

I hope this isn't replacing the Twin Peaks festival that usually happens in North Bend. (wow I guess that was answered with the post above which was sent while I wrote this crazy) I think this is what Sherlyn was talking about but not what HHM claimed. Tho HHM might be full of it. 2020 better bring...

Re: Twin Peaks Season 3, Star Wars, JJ and Fan Service

And since this is a TP forum, let’s all take a moment to reflect on what a DKL-directed Return of the Jedi would have looked like. I mostly agree with you, although I like the Prequels more than the originals (except for Empire Strikes Back, which is clearly the best in the series) becaus...

Twin Peaks Season 3, Star Wars, JJ and Fan Service

I haven’t seen it, but I’ve read the reviews and it appears JJ Abrams was influenced by the loud minority of fans critical of The Last Jedi and did pure fan service for The Rise of Skywalker. The result, if the critics are to be believed, is the worst Star Wars ever. Imagine if Lynch and Frost had t...

This seems much more than the other conventions. It’s at Graceland!

Re: Twin Peaks 30: Official Fan Celebration (Graceland)

So maybe this is what Sherilyn was complaining about? Maybe they initially were not going to invite her?
