Re: S3: Biggest Disappointment About Unresolved Subplots?

Re-watching parts 1-16 seems pointless now except for a few scenes. Good to see I'm not alone. Even the scenes I love will most likely lose their significance. Gabriel's words early on about a sketch show was pretty spot on. It's not just that dropping all the subplots is disappointing in itself, b...

Re: FINAL POLL!!!!!!! Your Reaction to The Return as a Complete Work

Still in the mixed, leaning towards dislike. I haven't rewatched 17 and 18 yet, but at first glance these were two of the finest this season, even though I'm not too big a fan of the expanded mythology. And paradoxically, they pretty much obliterated - or at least made somewhat redundant - most of w...

Re: Part 18 - What is your name? (SPOILERS)

I've read quite a lot about this dynamic as part of my art history masters. In so far as texts are meaningful texts, they are transparent, allowing words to vanish and be replaced with meanings. But the whole point of visual art, images and film is not to vanish and be replaced with meaning, but to...

Re: S3: Biggest Disappointment About Unresolved Subplots?

It's not one single subplot, but more the complete abandonment of everybody apart from Cooper in the last two hours. I didn't necessarily crave closure, but more understanding of what came in ep 1-16. Instead, it was like Windom Earle just flattening the pieces on the chess board.

Re: Part 18 - What is your name? (SPOILERS)

The top comment there is also a great reflection on how the 25-year gap between the old show and this season may be reflected in some ways in its ending. (I don't think that's one of its primary goals, but it tracks -- "What year is it?", merger of humor and horror in Cooper, a yearning t...

Re: Part 18 - What is your name? (SPOILERS)

Was the guy that he shot in the foot pulling a gun or some other sort of weapon at that moment? Otherwise I'd have a hard time imagining Cooper - as we knew him - shooting somebody in the foot quite so nonchalantly, or doing so without at least attempting a less violent solution first. He went from...

Re: Twin Peaks Return: The Profoundly Disappointed Support Group (SPOILERS)

On another note, I take it your a big Ben Horne fan. Glad Richard Beymer got more than a cameo, and I had high hopes he would play big in the finale, but he just faded away :-( He sure had a lot of telephone calls this season :D Was he ever outside of his office? Dancing, fun lovin' Ben was probabl...

Re: Twin Peaks Return: The Profoundly Disappointed Support Group (SPOILERS)

I'm sad for people who feel the original show is now tainted for them. I was afraid this would happen to me as well if I didn't like the Return, but oddly enough I don't feel this way. Its probably because I am SO detached on every level from everything about The Return that I actually feel the fir...

Re: Twin Peaks Return: The Profoundly Disappointed Support Group (SPOILERS)

But these guys did not address Annie at all, who and what can guarantee that they would even go back to part 18 for any kind of resolution in a hypothetical season 4?! :D They might again take the show in a "a new bold and daring direction, unencumbered by what happened in the past" . Yea...

Seriously, though. He won. He had everything. It was all worked out... and he LEFT. He couldn't just go home to Janey-E and Sonny Jim. He couldn't go back to the FBI. He couldn't just accept well enough. But he HAD to go back. He HAD to get Laura. It kind of mirrors Lynch's own obsession with Laura...

Re: Twin Peaks Return: The Profoundly Disappointed Support Group (SPOILERS)

I'm glad you enjoyed a fair bit of it The Gazebo. I did too, but am still trying to wrap my head around it. There is a part of me that just loves it in its own right. If I have to be honest, there is that part of me that wanted some resolution to certain storylines-Audrey, Red, Ben/Beverly, etc. An...

Re: Part 18 - What is your name? (SPOILERS)

I don't think he was Mr. C. I do think elements of his doppelganger were now heightened in the warped, askew alternate reality. His shadow self is a part of him, and the world was out of balance. I have to say the scene at the cafe might be the best example. He seemingly did the right things - but ...

Re: Twin Peaks Return: The Profoundly Disappointed Support Group (SPOILERS)

After I Finished watching episode 18 I told myself: "The disappointed group thread will be on fire for the next 25 years!!!" :) For most of us inhabiting spirits I don't think episode 18 really mattered that much. I enjoyed a fair bit of it (a lot easier when expectations* are low, and yo...

But, barring that, congratulations on your release from the Black Lodge after tonight! ...But what if this is our punishment for facing season 3 with imperfect courage? We will now be forced to watch endless repeats of floor sweeping for the next 25 years, until season 4 arrives. :( (...

Re: Twin Peaks Return: The Profoundly Disappointed Support Group (SPOILERS)

Find myself strangely upbeat today, probably for a few reasons: 1. The long, unsatisfactory ride is finally coming to a close. 2. The potential for two kick-ass hours of television tonight. 3. At last, I can be able to watch the whole damned thing, and maybe get a fresh perspective on things. Need a...
