Re: Part 16 - No knock, no doorbell (SPOILERS)

You may think that the creepiness of this scene was "destroyed" by the relative simplicity of the effect. Other gumballs might thnk it looks "cheap" or "shitty." I happen to think this is one of the creepiest sequences in the history of television, much less Twin Peaks...

Re: TP:TR Gets Glowing Review in the Washington Post

I think it's really very hard to measure what percentage of the fandom like vs. love vs. despise the Return. My general impression just from messaging, reading posts, listening to podcasts, etc. is about 70-80% either like or love. But that's highly unscientific, so if someone wants to dispute that...

Re: A Simple Poll: Is Richard toast?

Yep. Throwaway character, it seems now (shame, though, based on episode 5 I wish he'd had an even bigger and more important role to play - a thoroughly creepy and obnoxious villain at the time).

No expectations for the finale = no fear or dread. I just hope we see or hear from Wally again. Absence of this will result in one angry Scandinavian :)

AHAHAHAHAHHA! I spit my coffee ahahhahahaha :) Ok I disagree as much as I can with this but my God this was funny as shit. Ahhahahahahahhahaha thank you for the good laugh. (I still owe you an expensive beer and a steak dinner.) Yaxomoxay, I disagree with you about everything to do with TPTR, but y...

This whole season might well turn out to be a Tulpa.

Re: TP:TR Gets Glowing Reviews [plural] in the Washington Post, Chicago Trib, etc; except they're all the Same review

In all seriousness, I'll admit that at times I've probably *appreciated* The Return more than I was actually enjoying it - it has frequently been grim and confusing, and while grim and confusing are certainly part and parcel of Twin Peaks and of Lynch's work in general, it wouldn't have hurt for so...

Re: POLL: Which Characters Will We See in the Final Two Hours?

That could be said on behalf of any number of characters as I've considered it. Ernie Hudson & Cynthia Knox come to mind. While it was super fleeting in screen time, seeing Augustine's character but not recognizing her -- then reading later who the actress was, and TOTALLY recognizing her on re...

Re: Part 16 - No knock, no doorbell (SPOILERS)

I don't really care if the effects are 'shitty' - I find myself more concerned with the overall (lack of) suspense of disbelief. No problems with Laura's face suddenly smeared on to Donna's in season 1 (as rubbish as it seems in retrospect), but Sarah removing her face destroyed what was building to...

Re: POLL: Which Characters Will We See in the Final Two Hours?

I'd love to see American Girl again. I'm fine for her to remain this ambiguous new American Girl (as opposed to Ronette Pulaski), but something about her performance just notched things up for me. I don't think we'll see her, but may as well put the wish out there. I'm with ya! Can never have too m...

Re: TP:TR Gets Glowing Review in the Washington Post

It's especially difficult to get a "true sense" of the reaction when you've already decided what the reaction should be. Aimed at me? I think I've made it perfectly clear elsewhere that I'm disappointed at this moment, but I'm still hoping that given time I'll appreciate it a lot more. I'...

Re: TP:TR Gets Glowing Review in the Washington Post

And also I think some posters are exaggerating the extent to which the fanbase is divided. From what I've seen, it is divided to a certain extent, but much less so than it was after Fire Walk With Me premiered in 1992. But that's a personal impression of mine and more difficult to measure. I can't ...

Re: TP:TR Gets Glowing Review in the Washington Post

This was just one critic but the overall critical consensus has been very positive. 72% on Metacritic I believe. Listen, it's hard to argue for The Return's failure when critics are hoisting it up the flagpole. I would walk around with a degree of smugness myself if my opinion aligned with the crit...
