Re: Season 4? Or is it over after this? Wisteria/Unrecorded Night? Something else? (Speculation thread.)

I believe the original Twin Peaks was probably more commercially successful because of multiple directors, but it would likely have been a better show artistically had Lynch been able to direct all the episodes. So while I think the collaboration worked well on Twin Peaks, it was still less than ide...

I don't necessarily agree with Terry Gilliam here, because I don't think all great film has to make you think or be open ended in interpretation, but here is Gilliam's critique of Spielberg:

Overall, I am really glad about this new development.

Re: Parts 1 & 2 - My log has a message for you & The stars turn and a time presents itself (SPOILERS)

I can’t recall — has there been any discussion about the gold/yellow object Judy/Experiment seems to be holding when she first appears? It’s so blurry, but the object appears to move with her (as opposed to being a reflection in the glass or something banal), and then she works her hands and it dis...

Re: Film musicals

I own two movie musicals in my movie collection. 1. "How To Succeed in Business Without Really Trying" - well before "The Office", there was How To Succeed! 2. "Oliver" - it was the musical I grew up with, so it has a special place in my heart. Edit: oops forgot The Sou...

Re: Film musicals

I never heard of A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum ; it sounds like my kind of thing, so thank you for the recommendation! I'm generally more into ancient Greece (Socrates and the gang), but this will do just fine! One of the songs from 'Forum' is really famous...'Comedy Tonight'. They...

08. Holy Mountain (Jodorowsky)
Just saw Santa Sangre by Jodorowsky. When it first came out in '89, I meant to go see it, but somehow never made a plan.

So here I am 33 years later, finally seeing it.

It was definitely interesting.

Re: Alternate Cuts/Versions of Films? The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly

I have a question regarding The Godfather trilogy: I love those films and have seen them many times throughout the years, but never the alternate versions. So, has anyone seen The Godfather 1901–1959: The Complete Epic , which lasts for 7 and a half hours and includes many additional scenes? I have...

Y: The Last Man (Amber Tamblyn)

Russ is very sad that his daughter’s show has been canceled after only one season. I started to watch it and it is really good so far. But now all doors have been shut for it to be continued on another platform. So I am debating: is it worth watching all the episodes knowing there will be a bunch of...

Re: Alternate Cuts/Versions of Films? The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly

There's one thing about director's cuts I feel ambivalent about but it's a bit of an abstract issue. Many of them (if not most?) are constructed way after the fact, sometimes decades after the film's initial release. And to me, that creates an instant disconnect and creates too much authorial dista...

Halloween 6 - blast from the past - thats after Michael Myers' gets rescued from jail by a cult ? I know I saw that movie but dont remember much other than Mitch Ryan from Dark Shadows was in it. Had no idea there was an alternative edit. The Alternate Cut is called the Producer’s Cut and is a very...

Alternate Cuts/Versions of Films? The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly

I just recently watched the Director's Cut of Mimic (1997), and I have to say I was a bit disappointed. What really needed to be changed was the ending, which was too happy-go-lucky and never matched well with the rest of the film's tone. The ending needed to be dark or at best ambiguous. And appare...

Re: For Those Who Were (Mostly) Satisfied with The Return

Getting back to directorial indulgence, I feel it is mostly a meaningless term. It means the director did not water down their vision to make the film more marketable to popular tastes, and they instead made the film they wanted to make. The only area where I would personally use this term is when a...
