Re: Expectation setting by fans in the modern cyber arena
lol honestly I suspect it's the people who think that wall-to-wall badalamenti cocked-eyebrow clarinet solo is just around the corner who need to adjust their expectations

Re: The Ben & Jerry scene (SPOILERS)
Yes, I think the peculiar scheduling might have seemed fun at the time, but I think they'd have been better off putting out the first four parts across a couple of nights, then running the schedule as normal from the following weekend. Four parts, followed by a two week break, allows irritation to ...

Re: POLL! Your reaction to Twin Peaks: The Return, pts. 1 through 4 (SPOILERS)
Nice! A record of initial superfan reaction is valuable - we should do another once part 18 has aired as a point of comparison.

Re: Expectation setting by fans in the modern cyber arena
I don't know, maybe the casual viewer so beloved of hand-wringers round here has cause to feel "conned" by the title and theme music of this show but those of us who post to this board have had ample reason to expect something like what we've got for a very long time now, by paying attenti...

Re: Joan Chen's letter to David Lynch (NON SPOILER)
I think Josie was a potentially great character that was horribly fumbled but I love the drawer pull scene and would have loved to see them follow up on it in s3 even in a small way (but don't think they will) I don't think any part of twin peaks, past or present, is a "fuck you" to anyone...

Re: Expectation setting by fans in the modern cyber arena
Obviously it's embarrassing as hell when rubes resort to the ludicrous "people who will like anything Lynch does no matter what" strawman, but shouldn't we extend the same good faith to people who simply don't like the new series so far? Maybe you really have come into this with no expecta...

Re: NON SPOILERS: Twin Peaks: Season 3 on Showtime Thread
New Twin Peaks practically defines postmodernism: let's remove all the craft; the meticulous framing, colour grading, coherent editing, competent performances and coherent pacing and see if it's still art... It's a fun show, but it looks like it was made by fanboys who had 50 quid, a stolen Arri an...

Re: NON SPOILERS: Twin Peaks: Season 3 on Showtime Thread
It's panic stations over at showtime as they attempt to weather the humiliation of having the first episode of their new tv series receive a 5-minute standing ovation at the Cannes film festival

Re: Parts 3 + 4 (SPOILERS)
Don Davis definitely said "blue" several times (project blue book) - he only needs to have been recorded at some point saying "arose", "grows", "throes" or any one of a dozen similar words for them to get the other snippet. Or, yeah, a soundalike.

Re: Twin Peaks Return: The Profoundly Disappointed Support Group (SPOILERS)
To clarify, I think that lynch is essentially just saying "this season was conceived and produced as a whole", not that it must be consumed as such, otherwise it wouldn't be released the way that it is! It's just a variation on frost's conception of season 1 as chapters of a novel - I'm su...

Re: Twin Peaks Return: The Profoundly Disappointed Support Group (SPOILERS)
If it were necessarily doomed to failure, it wouldn't be succeeding to the extent it has. The analogy is just never going to track because a few minutes is not the same as an hour, no matter if the % of the final product is the same. This seems fairly obvious to me? 'Succeeding to the extent it has...

Re: POLL! Your reaction to Twin Peaks: The Return, pts. 1 through 4 (SPOILERS)
Aw, I hope the 7 of you (as it stands currently) come around at some point :-) Me, I love it almost without reservation - I think I have fewer quibbles than with any piece of TP media since the movie. Blazing controversial take: I also think that each hour so far has been well-structured as an hour ...

Re: References in the Return to Lynch's Non-TP Works (SPOILERS)
People are using DougieCoop (or droolcoop, or mr jackpots) as a shorthand for the newly-returned not-all-there coop who takes Dougie's place and is addressed as Dougie by everyone he encounters because it's a distinct performance by Maclachlan, one of at least four so far (although I think we might ...
