Re: Gender in Twin Peaks: The Return (SPOILERS)
Of course nothing really compares to Donna and Laura in Fire Walk With Me . Occasionally they talk about other things, but much of their dialogue centers on : James/Bobby/Mike, Donna worrying about Laura (going back to the abuse...and other stuff involving men). I'm not that impressed with FWWM on ...

Re: Part 12 - Let's rock (SPOILERS)
Interesting theory. But there was the guy who ran into the Double R asking if anyone had seen Billy I know people said it was subtexted wrong as Bing but it actually sounds like him saying Bing instead of Billy. Perhaps just a bandmember trolling the DoubleR about their Bing Cherry Pie? Sabrina Sut...

Re: Part 12 - Let's rock (SPOILERS)
I think the 9 hour version might have been better...probably not as much Twin Peaks, though.

Re: Gender in Twin Peaks: The Return (SPOILERS)
Haven't been keeping up with this thread as I moved to Japan last week, and everything's been hectic, but I do have to say that my reservations remain and have possibly been heightened after episode 12. Maybe something will allow all the gender stuff to click as well as it does in Lynch's other wor...

Electric Tree wrote:Has anyone brought up Jerry running out of the woods with what looks like blood on his hands?
Looking at earlier scenes, eg, first one in pt 5, it's clearly his red finger-less gloves.

Weird interview. "he didn't tell me anything"....."he said 'give me that walk!'"

Re: Part 12 - Let's rock (SPOILERS)
It's kind of funny that after the piles and piles of posts and discussion around whether Miriam was alive, and then Miriam's letter, and finally whether/how Richard would actually get caught -- all this wiped out with one scene by Frank Truman saying they basically know everything. Without even a h...

Re: Gender in Twin Peaks: The Return (SPOILERS)
You don't need to go too deep to see why it might be relevant, it's an activity done by humans, involving other humans and addressing other humans. I can only assume he doesn't believe in responsibility at all?

Re: Gender in Twin Peaks: The Return (SPOILERS)
it might not be "responsible" to show any sex of out wedlock. If I recall correctly the only sex performed out of wedlock that we have seen in The Return, has directly resulted in the gory and brutal deaths of the participants by supernatural agents. Ah, this is another horror movie trope...

Re: Gender in Twin Peaks: The Return (SPOILERS)
Regarding the Log Lady, at least, that's an ignorant comment. Margaret Lanterman is one of the most iconic characters in Twin Peaks. In TSHOTP, she's described as an independant woman, and one of the most brilliant and intelligent individuals in Twin Peaks. I agree - witches are known to be very in...

Re: Gender in Twin Peaks: The Return (SPOILERS)
I think there is a bit of an entanglement between the aesthetic (portraying characters as one-dimensional punching bags is not great art) and the moral (the way it reflects or reinforces entrenched views in society). I would argue that, yes, artists have a moral responsibility in their work, just as...

Re: Gender in Twin Peaks: The Return
It doesn't matter what his goal is. The concern is with the text and what it ends up accomplishing. ... Huh? Don't be obtuse, please. The payoff everyone is talking about is making the suffering significant and human, in Lynch's tradition, since EH and BV.. Why does Twin Peaks need to accomplish an...

Re: Lynch, Frost and women
I don't think I've ever posted before, if I have it was long ago; but I've been reading and enjoying the forum for years. Have to say I'm really disappointed that the mods gave in to the pressure and split this off into its own thread. If discussing gender in the context of a DAVID LYNCH SHOW is no...

Re: Part 10 - Laura is the one (SPOILERS)
Analyzing is not a problem, obviously. Analyzing a work of art with a political agenda and seeing it through this lense only is. It's very sad as it prevents these people for appreciating these works for what they really are as they're trying to make them look as they want them to be. Yes, I think ...

Re: When do you think will "Dougie" snap back to being Cooper? (Spoilers)
i just re-watched the two trailers featuring footage of Cooper not yet seen.. both when driving the car and standing outside that certain house it is undoubtedly Cooper and not BadCoop or Dougie. BadCoop has pitch-black eyes, you can clearly see the blue/grey color iris here. DougieCoop wouldn't be...
