Re: General Discussion on Season 3 (All Opinions Welcome)

Also all the more baffling that such open access was given to shooting at the Palmer house for the final scene of the entire piece. Yeah, I don't know who the people were from the public who were allowed to watch that scene being filmed, but it seems that they would have wanted an absolute clampdow...

Re: 'Russian Doll' Makes Me Appreciate S3 More (Spoilers for RD)

I don't really even know what "Russian Doll" is (I don't watch any shows off the internet), but I also am annoyed when things are too tidy. However, what has annoyed me somewhat when reading "interpretations" of S3 or the whole of "TP" is that so many fans strive to do...

Re: 'Russian Doll' Makes Me Appreciate S3 More (Spoilers for RD)

If you notice in EP 17 and EP 18, Cooper loses Laura in the woods. At first I thought the episode 18 scene was just a repeat of the EP 17 scene, but there are slight differences, so it seems Cooper has tried to save Laura at least twice. This plays into the 'time and time again' phrase from Evoluti...

Re: 'Russian Doll' Makes Me Appreciate S3 More (Spoilers for RD)

I think the time loop is pretty universally acknowledged by fans Is it now? I find that argument to be quite the weasel words. "Oh tons of people agree with me, just trust me." I haven't seen the time loop being any universally accepted truth anymore than any other theory. Of course, I ca...

Re: 'Russian Doll' Makes Me Appreciate S3 More (Spoilers for RD)

The Return is perfectly imperfect, just as INLAND EMPIRE, in Lynch's words, actually makes perfect sense. It is exactly as it needs to be. Describing it as a hot mess - which I wouldn't, as I see everything as locking perfectly into place on an intuitive level, and think that the series flows perfec...

Re: What's your favourite scene from The Return?

I think I need to give Part 9 another chance. That one has always been my least favourite - it just bores me. The Farm scene never really stood out to me, so now I'm excited to see it again, knowing it's someone else's favourite. It's just weird. Mr. C is like a lion on a lift when they bring him u...

Re: What's your favourite scene from The Return?

OK, I have a new favourite scene to add to my list! I rewatched Part 6 the other night, and there was a moment that had previously passed me by that really hit hard. When DougieCoop is in his boss's office and Bushnell is looking over the case files, there is a beautiful moment where Coop looks up ...

Re: Season 4? Or is it over after this?

You would think that he would want to go back into time to change ever being in the Lodge, but I did not find evidence of this in the story. Everything seems to indicate Cooper was 'mission-driven' to the end, presumably to defeat Judy and save Laura. And note that 'saving' Laura did not free him f...

Re: What would a Season 4 be about?

One of those experiences would be Showgirls I imagine, but I remain firmly in the camp that it is a masterpiece. I was lucky enough to see it in Paris a few years back during a Paul Verhoeven retrospective, and the audience of beatniks loved it. It is a viscious takedown of American success stories...

Yes, which is a very Kyle thing to do.

Re: What would a Season 4 be about?

I saw somewhere that Kyle had something on his instagram relating to 1967. A photo from his youth. I just checked and it's still there. I think that's why he said "1967," not that it actually had anything to do with Part 18. Though it is interesting as Reindeer pointed out that it is the y...

Re: Sincerity

Yeah, no doubt. Sorry, I didn't mean that against your use of the word here, but rather against the use of the word in general, precisely because, as you said, it is the word that was often being strewn about by those who felt duped by The Return. Critic Matt Zoller Seitz unleashed a tweet storm ab...

Re: Sincerity

The word trolling is obnoxious in the first place. Sure, there was "trolling" in The Return, but that doesn't mean it wasn't 100% sincere in that it homed in on a set of themes and made the exact thing that fit those themes, the exact thing that needed to be made/said rather than what we ...

Re: What would a Season 4 be about?

@boske and Cappy There is another parallel with the stolen car. Jerry states his car is stolen, and later in the same Part we find out that Richard stole/borrowed the car that he used in the hit and run. At the time, my mind immediately went to the hit-and-run truck belonging to Jerry (as though he'...

Re: Phillip Jeffries imposter / Lost Highway connection?

I get that it could be seen that way, but what's missing is how Sarah could just pop in on Bad Dale's encrypted communications, and what would be her motivation for pretending to be Jeffries? Albert had both ability and motive. - Mordeen Very true. I'm not subscribing to any particular theory on th...
