Re: 18 hours- will it turn out to be too long?

I'm a DKL true believer, and I have near-complete faith in him based on my prior relationship with his work. But this is the one thing that gives me a slight tinge of pause. DKL typically overshoots more than almost any other director (see FWWM, BV, W@H), then trims the fat in editing. The deleted m...

Re: NO SPOILERS: Twin Peaks Season 3 on Showtime May 21st 2017

Yeah, he says he's against binge but no one watches a film in parts over many weeks, you watch it all at once. Right, and the man was initially against chapter breaks on DVDs of his "features" because they should be watched straight through without pausing, but he insisted that the Return...

Re: NO SPOILERS: Twin Peaks Season 3 on Showtime May 21st 2017

So DKL stopped watching the show when it was originally airing, and didn't watch it when he made the Return. When asked why, he goes back to talking about how the Pilot is the purest version of TP for him. He must have watched the original series when doing the Blu-ray, right? I think on those type ...

Re: NO SPOILERS: Twin Peaks Season 3 on Showtime May 21st 2017

A lot of interesting stuff from DKL. He, like Mark, didn't bother to rewatch the original show at all. Huh. I had my faith in DKL (who tended to be the keeper of the light as far as the 1989 date goes), but it sounds like we definitely might be in for some rocky continuity. He seems to have a sense ...

Re: 'The Secret History of Twin Peaks' novel by M. Frost 10/18

I'm late to the party on this. I was going to rewatch the series and read this book before watching the new show. However, watching the show itself will take me into next week, and the book a lot longer. I wanted to watch the premiere sometime next week. Would you say it's important to read this wh...

Re: 'The Secret History of Twin Peaks' novel by M. Frost 10/18

Couple more things I noticed on my rewatch/reread: Audrey's mention of Ghostwood possibly including a prison (page 229) seems to be a really deep-cut reference to p. 109 of the Access Guide , which says some shadowy organization known as DLMF Creations (har har) has been proposing a prison developme...

Re: NO SPOILERS: Twin Peaks Season 3 on Showtime May 21st 2017

Omigod. I'm so happy to see Ben (with the "BEN" prop from the original show still on his desk!!!). One of my favorite characters. The absence of both him and the Great Northern from promotion was really worrying me. So, a mushroom cloud has replaced Gordon's bucolic office wallpaper from F...

Re: NO SPOILERS: Twin Peaks Season 3 on Showtime May 21st 2017

I know we're wandering off topic, but I have to add: MD the pilot is cheesy as hell in spots. The film ending not only makes sense of that corniness, it turns it into a massive strength.

Re: The Random Twin Peaks Thread

On my most recent rewatch, I discovered a beautiful piece of continuity: the "ring podium" from FWWM is in the Red Room in Episode 29! I assume some detail-oriented fans are aware of this, but I don't recall ever seeing this pointed out before.

Re: 'Twin Peaks: The Final Dossier' Novel by Mark Frost 10/31

Something that just occurred to me: Frost has said that part of what he was interested in exploring in TSHoTP was subjective/unreliable memory. I wonder if this was to some extent influenced by his father's struggle with Alzheimer's. I watched my grandfather slowly lose his memory and his sense of p...

Re: 'Twin Peaks: The Final Dossier' Novel by Mark Frost 10/31

It's worth noting that Jennifer has also said she doesn't believe her dad read The Secret Diary . What do you make of Frost's comment on his AMA ("Not true about the Diary: it became the basis for FWWM")? I'd always heard Lynch never read it, so was a bit thrown by Frost's reply. I hadn't...

Re: NO SPOILERS: Twin Peaks Season 3 on Showtime May 21st 2017

Heh, that explains Dern's comment a few years ago that DKL was working on a new film. She had no idea what the project was when he started discussing her character with her!

Re: 'Twin Peaks: The Final Dossier' Novel by Mark Frost 10/31

I would imagine that Jen understands who he is better than anyone, and gets it. She seemed far more amused than hurt in the interview I read. Plus, again, it was a huge act of trust letting her write the thing in the first place as a completely unproven author.

I'd bet money that Quade Stallworth is just some set dresser's folly, but it's certainly a distinctive name.
