Re: FINAL POLL!!!!!!! Your Reaction to The Return as a Complete Work

All in all, this was unlike anything else and I have ended up loving it.

Re: Works That Influenced Twin Peaks: The Return

A while ago someone on this forum noticed that there was an episode of The Twilight Zone that had some interesting parallels with S3. It was called something like 'the hitch-hiker' I believe. I googled it up and watched it, and while I don't think that particular episode is extremely resonant, I wil...

Re: Nowhere to Go...but Home!

Just to get the most obvious Oz resonance out of the way... Aunt Em There, there, lie quiet now. You just had a bad dream. Dorothy But it wasn't a dream. This was a real, truly live place. And I remember that some of it wasn't very nice - but most of it was beautiful. But just the same, all I kept s...

Re: Just a thought...about the entire extent of our enjoyment

'The way that Lynch talks sometimes, it's as if everybody is alone in their own private cinema, viewing a film that each individual will have a deeply personal and private response to. It doesn't really work that way. Cinema is a social scene, and friendly viewers talk to each other -- if not durin...

Re: Just a thought...about the entire extent of our enjoyment

@novalis i have alot of sympathy with yr posts but i don't like the word monads, it feels like a lazy short cut, like tulpas, it's a feed. I'm not fully understanding you here, but it's true I was feeling rushed and probably did take too many short cuts. Let's say something else instead then. I sup...

More seriously, as long as there are subtitles for the main features I'll be very happy. Anything besides that would be a bonus.

Re: Just a thought...about the entire extent of our enjoyment

The black box "reveal" is a very overt moment that even the most inattentive viewer will spot. It pretty much hits us over the head. I'm not sure that that particular example is the best support for your apparent assertion that there is some hidden key we have to unlock in the work. Ever ...

Re: So is there anyone else who prefers The Return to the original?

It made me see the Evelyn scenes in a whole new light, one of intentional badness, of nightmarish soap opera glamour that was designed to stupefy with its overbearing and empty lust shrouded in maudlin haze. I'm happy to read this, because that's the way I processed those scenes too. If I'm honest ...

Re: Poll: Would you like to see a 4th season happen? (SPOILERS PERMITTED)

I still have reservations: If it happens I'd like to see a further season go in a different direction completely, facing a new mystery, and stop trying to rework old ground. I think the Laura-Cooper story is all but exhausted now.

That said, I have adjusted my vote from 'unsure' to 'yes'.

Re: An apologia for Sarah

Sorry to drop the fourth wall for a second here, but I think ever since Zabriskie played Juana Durango in WaH (and starred in Child's Play 2 the same year) Lynch saw the potential in her for creepy characterisation. It's true, some of that potential was clearly present back in the original season to...

Re: Twin Peaks: Season 3 on Blu-ray 12/5/17

Is there literally one thing in this cover art that is the right colour? Lol. :P Ah well, it'll do. I've never really been bothered too much by cover art. I actually liked the subtitle 'The Return'. I liked the Nietzschean Eternal Recurrence idea you could hear echo in that name. Shame it was...

Re: The evolution of David Lynch and Twin Peaks (Spoilers)

I kind of view Twin Peaks as a vehicle for telling certain stories. I mean this both figuratively and concretely. In the original run it was a vehicle with many articulated parts, something like a train. It took the best parts of contemporary soap and drama and utilised them to do something very di...

Very interesting. Thanks for the information. EDIT: It seems that the info comes from this reddit post , and two linked articles (in Serbian). Yes I took It from Reddit but welcometotwinpeaks.com wrote about it too. http://welcometotwinpeaks.com/news/twin-peaks-season-4-years/ Lynch says: ''“Many t...

Re: Works That Influenced Twin Peaks: The Return

Also wanted to mention classical/ancient literature and mythology as an influence. From the very beginning we've had the statues of Venus (the de Medici and the de Milo) as part of the iconography of the waiting room (interestingly, the de Milo sculpture is replaced with a modern, Lynch-created vers...
