Re: Cooper in season 3: good Coop or evil Coop?

Very good points. I was just having a conversation with my friend... we've both been enjoying the modern renaissance of modern scripted hour long dramas, and he commented that it seems good people aren't interesting enough to carry these shows. I'm not sure I agree with the premise, but none the les...

Re: Cooper in season 3: good Coop or evil Coop?

I mean think about it, if episode 29 had resolved most of the threads of the season instead of dropping that gnarly cliffhanger on us, would the interest in a revival be so strong? What would be the reason we need to go back to this story? It's also telling that Kyle Machlachlan was the earliest ca...

Re: Cooper in season 3: good Coop or evil Coop?

Of course 25 years and the death of Frank Silva were things Frost and Lynch had to deal with from the moment they started thinking about a revival. It's just speculation on my part, but I'd suspect a big part of the reason they mutually agreed it's worth it to come back to Twin Peaks is they both ca...

Re: Cooper in season 3: good Coop or evil Coop?

I honestly can't imagine that the new season wouldn't deal heavily with the implications of the final image of episode 29. It may not be the way we anticipate, but it's hard to picture Cooper returning and being the same sort of salt of the earth idealist he was for most of the series, his entire st...

Re: Log Lady intros

I wasn't aware that these were shot after FWWM and were put together by Lynch. During my most recent full rewatch (first time I'd watched the entire series including the tough stretch in season 2) my friend, who was watching the series for the first time, opted out of watching the intros. If I'd kno...

Re: Farewell, Catherine Coulson

Yeah, if she died of cancer this probably wasn't shocking or unexpected to those who knew her. It's always hard but she leaves behind many wonderful memories, through her work and I'm sure many, many more through the personal relationships with loved ones.

Re: Where (and when and who) were you when you found TP?

I first saw the pilot on ABC... I want to say it was a re-airing of the pilot and not the very first airing. I recall there'd been a fair amount of hype and critical acclaim already, so I'm thinking it was a re-airing. I was 14 and I watched with my family... only my mother wasn't watching. My fathe...

Re: Wishes...Hopes...& Dreams

5. An expanded GLBT and multi-racial presence in the show I don't have a big wishlist (other than Lynch directing) but seeing thus certainly made me add to it. Film and television is so white washed, and Lynch is unfortunately no exception, that I practically don't bother noting it anymore. The ori...

Re: Lost vs. Twin Peaks - A Comparison

Opinions about film, television, and pretty much any art is, always has been and always will be subjective. I'm not sure what the point is in getting upset or insulting people (Ajax Rules implying there must be some maturity deficiency afoot if people like Lost) over a difference of opinion. Persona...

Re: Roman Polanski's The Tenant

The version you saw may have been one with an updated soundtrack. Here's the original version: http://fan.tcm.com/video/meshes-of-the-afternoon-1943-maya-deren (EDIT: To be more precise, this is the original sound version, the only one Deren herself was involved in. The original version is silent, t...

Re: Roman Polanski's The Tenant

Repulsion is definitely worth seeing as is Meshes of the Afternoon! I agree it would be very strange if Lynch hadn't seen it. It's hard to believe he never saw it during his time at The American Film Institute. Perhaps the name of the filmmaker slipped his mind?

Re: Roman Polanski's The Tenant

Ah. That scene does stand out from IE... I'll have to watch the Tenant scene again. Anyway good recommendation... it completes a trilogy of sorts for Polanski with Repulsion and Rosemary's Baby... all three being horror/thriller films where an oppressive apartment building and the lead character's p...

Re: Roman Polanski's The Tenant

I love The Tenant... I'm more familiar with The Tenant than Inland Empire. (Lynch is my favorite filmmaker but IE isn't one I've watched a number of times). I'm not sure I've completely absorbed everything in Inland Empire yet. And off hand I'm not sure which scenes you are talking about. You can pu...
