Re: From an artistic standpoint, why was The Return needed at all?

I actually liked some S3 episodes, but the ending is... "Cooper altered the timeline" (or tried to alter it, or did try it in a dream.. whatever exactly happened, the time travel part was certainly there) Stuff like that belongs in a Star Trek episode or a Back to the Future sequel. No ma...

Re: Watching 17 and 18 in sync

I think Deming and Lynch just like a certain composition within a frame. So did Kubrick. https://vimeo.com/48425421 I also think Dark Side of the Moon and Wizard of Oz don't sync at all, or any better than any random album and Oz. The composition is not really the issue, although I have not seen th...

Re: Poll: Criticism of The Return

...talking about his ability to obtain an erection... I also didn't appreciate that, or the way we had to see Tammy's blushful half-smile in response. It was a bit like a lecherous grandad preening himself when his grandson brings home a new girlfriend. Overfamiliar? Something like that; he crossed...

do you really find the story pointless? I don't I actually liked some S3 episodes, but the ending is... "Cooper altered the timeline" (or tried to alter it, or did try it in a dream.. whatever exactly happened, the time travel part was certainly there) Stuff like that belongs in a Star Tr...

That's not the entire ending. The Julie Cruz appearance is the ending, is equally impactful, and supports the intentional nature of the syncing.

Re: Watching 17 and 18 in sync

It's one long film: 18 parts (1 hour). I appreciate the joke, but you need to watch it before you scoff! :D The whole of the two episodes do not sync perfectly or at all, but allot does, and the endings of both (and the whole season) are much improved by the exercise. As Lynch has claimed the seaso...

Re: Watching 17 and 18 in sync

I skimmed the reddit thread and though "hmm, none of this looks persuasive to me", but you are making me think again! I didn't see the reddit thread, but read the article. I gave it serious consideration after seeing the way Lynch played with parallel sequences in the Box/Mauve Room scene...

Watching 17 and 18 in sync

Alex Fulton was crazy enough to do it. I thought this was interesting enough for its own thread. It may be tricky to do, but if you don't want to watch the whole thing this way, although it is thought provoking throughout, just watch the last 15 minutes of each synced up - if you can do that someho...

Re: Part 18 - What is your name? (SPOILERS)

A couple of other excellent readings/theories that may or may not have already been posted here. Your second link is right on. I just watched 17 and 18 in sync, and it is almost certainly intended to be watched this way. The quiet atmospheric music and the "Lynch/Frost" end-logo shown wit...

Re: Poll: Criticism of The Return

I thought the poll would maybe be looking at academic criticism (hmmm, how will that get put into a poll? I wondered), but this is more along the lines of a Jay Sherman review, "It Stinks!" :D I enjoyed having my expectations undermined, and since there is no option for "none of the a...

Re: The "We live inside a dream" theory

Of course, 'we live inside a dream' could be just a general statement of Lynch's philosophy of life- it does not necessarily mean Twin Peaks is a dream (though it suggests that possibility). Dream is a handy word, but not a conceptually accurate one for what I am thinking of when I (and I assume ma...

Re: ALBERT appreciation thread

I am sort of thinking at the moment that Albert exists only as a character in the mind or one or more dreamers. Cole's and Diane's I think for sure, as well as Coop's for a brief background cameo appearance. The dreamers intersect throughout. Cole and Diane watching Albert on his date would be one s...

Re: The "We live inside a dream" theory

I feel that most of the characters we saw this season were not real, while there is a number if actual dreamers involved in this, dreaming their own dreams, and sometimes their dreams conjoin (thus joining hands), creating the world of Twin Peaks we saw this summer. Most obvious dreamers are Coop, ...

The Tremonds and the Greek Mythology of the Lodges

There have been digital reams of material written about Eastern Mythology and TP, very juicy stuff and I enjoy it. It seems likely that DL has based some of the Lodge mechanics and symbology on various eastern religious ideas. However, since I am not well versed in the myths of that half of the worl...
