Re: Twin Peaks Return: The Profoundly Disappointed Support Group (SPOILERS)
I can't agree that the "characterful" side of Twin Peaks in the original show was only there to be deconstructed. It was a major focal point of the show, and it leads directly on to The Straight Story in Lynch's oeuvre, which is one of the most humane and compassionate films I've ever seen...

Re: Halftime Poll: Favorite Part So Far
I still think 3. On a first watch, it was really the Dougie bit when Cooper came out of the plug socket that sold me on the whole thing being top tier. 8 would be next, but its pretty close. It's really interesting how we view things differently. I think if we ask everybody to name their favourite ...

Re: Part 8 - Gotta light? (SPOILERS)
I think the last thing the show needs right now is to go to area 51 and come up with a whole new mythos about aliens and ufos. Beautiful as episode 8 was, it also revealed some of my biggest fears: Whereas season 1 and 2 was about humans being troubled/blessed by supernatural phenomena, season 3 co...

Re: Episode 8 (Season 2 Premiere)
The opening scene with Cooper and the waiter and the Giant is amazing. I've scratched my head to try and remember what it was like back in 1990, and I've got two points to make: 1. To me, it felt like a natural continuation of the series (Only in recent years have I learned of the alienating effect...

Re: Part 8 - Gotta light? (SPOILERS)
Watching the episode for the first time, the lighting and projections on "The" NIN's amp made it look incredibly similar to the aesthetic for DoppleCoop's shooting scene. It looked so alien and otherworldly, I was shocked. The Roadhouse manipulated in such a beautiful way. Even the projec...

Re: Halftime Poll: Favorite Part So Far
I voted for part 8, with part 7 a close second. I don't care if part 8 took us into territory that is kind of alien to me - it was just beautifully done. Part 7 is the most classic TP-ish of the season so far.

Re: Twin Peaks Return: The Profoundly Disappointed Support Group (SPOILERS)
It seems to me to come down to whether I watch primarily for entertainment/distraction or for intellectual stimulation. I grapple with the same dilemma. I find season 3 to be intellectually stimulating, hilariously funny in parts, visuually stunning, making the original run seem out-of-date in part...

Re: Episode 15
Retcon in this episode? I didn't find anything about the topic in this thread, but maybe this has been discussed in other threads. If so, my apologies. One of the mirror scenes with Leland/Bob has been changed from the original run. When Leland sends James and Donna on their way early in the episod...

Re: Twin Peaks Return: The Profoundly Disappointed Support Group (SPOILERS)
[quote="Venus"]Everyone on this thread who has been a fan of the new series has said to hold on, we're only a third of the way through an 18 hr movie and things will get better and it will return more to the some of the feeling of the old TP.[quote="Venus"] I think it's fair to s...

Re: Part 8 - Gotta light? (SPOILERS)
Strikes me that a lot of people are probably watching the new series on uncalibrated televisions. I think most viewers have been caught a bit off guard regarding the finer details in both sound and vision. I have been watching every episode on my laptop, using headphones, but it took me seven episo...
