Re: My take on INLAND EMPIRE

gavriloP, i really like your thoughts on this. i usually get bored reading explanations about everything on films, i like to keep things as open as possible, but you got me at this point : When we see the camera in Sues death scene, it is her final attempt to dream to be a Nikki (she is on the pillo...

Re: L.B.

I'm sorry, but it just sounds ugly to hear someone justify and make excuses for a woman who shamelessly cheats on her husband. Also, when you say that Nikki wasn't having fun, you must be watching a different film than the rest of us. Watch that sex scene again...at least the parts before the sudde...

Re: "It Was Red"

I've thought about Jina 's last post on this thrad and here's an interpretation on the point of Smithy 's id: It may be that her guilt over the affair with Devon , blended as it is with her character, Sue 's, guilt over hers with Billy causes her to see the actor, whoever he might be, playing Smith...

Re: L.B.

If one believes oneself what one says, then it ain't lying. I guess Visitor #1 is trying shock-therapy to wake up a 'sleeper'. This can back-fire. It is said that if you want to awaken someone having a nightmare, touch their foot or someplace far from the heart. Don't slap them. ** I'd hesitate to ...

Re: Where did the gun come from?

Or maybe Piotrek 's father's wife, about 30 years ago or so. One maybe clue as to time period: what uniform is the lovely girl wearing, the streetwalker in the snowy Poland scene? Polish, Russian or German? From what decade? It's always been at the back of my mind,'Why is the title of this old Poli...

Re: Where did the gun come from?

Why the big, pointing, 'Who is she?" is another question. We're supposed to wonder. that question at this point caught me by surprise, because at first i thought it was Ormond, too. i just have a very blur idea of who that woman might be and why it is important to the story. we see clearly she...

Re: L.B.

Other examples? After Kingsley tells the story of Vier-Sieben, the next scene cuts to Nikki cheerfully asking "What?" As with the aforementioned "Who's playing Smithy?" sequence, this response is open to interpretation. To me, it illustrates Nikki's willful denial of anything sh...

Re: "It Was Red"

here's my very personal point of view :

Smithy is a character on OHIBT.
Piotrek is Smithy only for Nikki, because Smithy's house for Nikki is the house she once lived with Piotrek.
it's very possible that i'm wrong and i'm not absolute to this, but this is my thinking on this so far..

Re: "It Was Red"

6) Piotrek Krol is ominous and aloof. Powerful and vicious. Smithy is grouchy and goofy. Sterile and defeated. Aside from their obviously identical appearance, the two guys are nothing alike, imo. right, but i think it is the same person. as Carl says, we don't know when these scenes occur.

Re: L.B.

Smithy's house in OHIBT, is the house him and Nikki used to live when they were younger - at least for some reason i think it is-

there is this question in the film : "who is Smithy?", if i remember rightly??

and the kid in the end is credited as "smithy's son".

Re: MTTH: Buying a watch

One is, perhaps, hypnotized, controlled by others, actions fated by a curse, possessed. Then that freedom of choice, that 'free will' is denied. This denial creates an imbalance in the natural, flow of events, in one's Fate or Destiny. When one awakens, is removed from this control, then 'choice' or...

Why Smithy and not Piotrek?
i'm a bit confused with the name Smithy.
