Re: Calling all who think the original timeline is still intact

@wonderful and strange There are real consequences to Cooper saving Laura. That's why the original timeline is toast. ok, please explain: why do you think there is only one definitive explanation, that Laura was 'saved'? I can think of several interpretations of what I saw, one of which is that the ...

Re: Poll: Would you like to see a 4th season happen? (SPOILERS PERMITTED)

@novalis blimey [EDIT] i re-read what you wrote, or rather read it properly. I had always seen Lynch's refusal to talk about what he does, to keep the mystery, as being similar to the story he told about psychotherapy: he said he went once, and asked the guy, 'will this effect my art-making?' and th...

Re: The evolution of David Lynch and Twin Peaks (Spoilers)

I kind of view Twin Peaks as a vehicle for telling certain stories. I mean this both figuratively and concretely. In the original run it was a vehicle with many articulated parts, something like a train. It took the best parts of contemporary soap and drama and utilised them to do something very di...

Re: Works That Influenced Twin Peaks: The Return

not being fancy or anything but i think we are talking more ionesco than beckett. Some other old existentialist anyway. It is all too expressionistic and emo to be beckett. And not nearly minimalist enough. All that clutter! But what do i know? you might be right :) Fair point, although have you re...

Re: Poll: Would you like to see a 4th season happen? (SPOILERS PERMITTED)

Lynch was asked about getting the fourth season during an event in Belgrade where he was on Skype. He told that its too early to talk about that if It were to happen we wouldnt see anything in the next 2 or 3 years because the last season took him 5 years to make. He didnt say No so he propably has...

Re: Works That Influenced Twin Peaks: The Return

@cipher. Can't see Beckett. Francis Bacon, however...I think Lynch would like people to see that...these sort of diffracted psychological portraits always on the border of queasiness and hysteria, but aways so poised and stylised...whether there is any real comparison to make there is another matter...

Re: Works That Influenced Twin Peaks: The Return

Luis Bunuel's 60's and 70's movies, esp. Phantom of Liberty, Exterminating Angel, That Obscure Object named Desire. I see echoes of these all over TP TR. Connected scenes with very little ( or no) main story, absurdism, weird mix of tone and genre, character doubling, narrative mirrors, time loops, ...

Re: The evolution of David Lynch and Twin Peaks (Spoilers)

@agent echo - You talk about the last episode in your interesting and thoughtful post. For me, the shot that changed everything that sticks in the mind emotionally was when Coop drives up to Judy's diner and you see him walk up to the door. Watching that, I had no idea atall what was going to happen...

Re: Twin Peaks Return: The Profoundly Disappointed Support Group (SPOILERS)

I respectfully disagree. I have been an admirer of Lynch's work for decades. I know what he's about, or, at least, what he used to be about. His work, regardless of what you refer to in terms of what he thinks a story is, used to be about vision, originality, power, mood, and storytelling, even if ...

Re: Twin Peaks Return: The Profoundly Disappointed Support Group (SPOILERS)

@AhmedKhalifa it is clear there is a change from Lynch previous stuff to inland empire and this, towards a much looser and more open-ended structure. ( which can appear messy from some angles). But what exactly was the plot development in TP? The whole thing was based round a mystery that was never ...

Re: Twin Peaks Return: The Profoundly Disappointed Support Group (SPOILERS)

I'm primarily interested in the story I'm supposed to be told than trying to find a story where there doesn't seem to be one. You can't really call Inland Empire or Lost Highway or Mulholland Drive or even Eraserhead to be stories in the traditional sense, they have a central idea and a basic struc...
