Re: L.B.
'...And if the unseen woman speaking to Polish Lucas is played by Ormand, what was the point of concealing her identity? ...' Possibly as a gag revolving around the fact that Ormond did not travel to Poland for the filming of IE , so a stand-in was used for this scene? **There seems to be a lot of i...

Re: L.B.
I'm going to slowly work my way through this discussion., starting with '...not only is she a character in a film(who gradually becomes aware she's a character) and therefore an abstraction with no way to be judged objectively but there's no way to be certain which parts of IE may be going on in her...

Re: MTTH: Buying a watch
I've thought some more on where Sue got the watch. Her next door neighbor is Kremp . Perhaps it is Kremp who is the one selling the watches in MTTH . We see Visitor #2 wearing it when she admonishes Sue about the debt that needs paying. Of course, we do not , any more than Sue , know what scene come...

Re: "It Was Red"
I've thought about Jina 's last post on this thrad and here's an interpretation on the point of Smithy 's id: It may be that her guilt over the affair with Devon , blended as it is with her character, Sue 's, guilt over hers with Billy causes her to see the actor, whoever he might be, playing Smithy...

Re: L.B.
If one believes oneself what one says, then it ain't lying. I guess Visitor #1 is trying shock-therapy to wake up a 'sleeper'. This can back-fire. It is said that if you want to awaken someone having a nightmare, touch their foot or someplace far from the heart. Don't slap them. ** I'd hesitate to c...

Re: Where did the gun come from?
Or maybe Piotrek 's father's wife, about 30 years ago or so. One maybe clue as to time period: what uniform is the lovely girl wearing, the streetwalker in the snowy Poland scene? Polish, Russian or German? From what decade? It's always been at the back of my mind,'Why is the title of this old Polis...

Re: L.B.
I take your point, Kiddo , about the 'answer'. The next scene's first word is 'Piotrek ?'. This may , indeed, be a cutesy-pie answer to the question. It just may be a literal answer, if hubby actually plays Smithy . ** Okay, this is a random thought, for sure, ( not as random as Estes 's joke, thoug...

Re: L.B.
'...The question was "Who's playing Smithy?" Nikki answers the question a few seconds later: "Piotrek." Smithy is Susan Blue's husband, but only in the alternate reality of Susan's world. Piotrek does not actually play the role of Smithy in OHBT, the film that his wife Nikki is s...

'...I have it from German subtitles.'
You have a dvd with German subtitles?
Hey! This makes you a real resource.
What does that particular title say, in German?

Re: Where did the gun come from?
'Ormond is even skinnier...' True, enough. A stand-in for Ormond ( what a beauty, eh? ), made to look dumpy and unappealing so as to motivate/justify the mustachioed man's infidelity is what I think it might be. Why the big, pointing, 'Who is she?" is another question. We're supposed to wonder.

Re: "It Was Red"
I take MichaelPW' s point about argument #2. I don't consider why or how Piotreck got to the shed as being relevant to deciding if it's he or Smithy that is the character in that scene. That does not mean it isn't Smithy , of course, just that it doesn't lend weight to the identification. **'...Piot...

Re: MTTH: Buying a watch
Without free will, guilt is meaningless. IE is a very 'guilt culture' movie, imo. Without guilt, there can be no redemption. Redemption seems to me to be one of the Big Themes in IE . **I think, and have right along, that it is a mistake to paint The Phantom as a melodramatic villain. DL parodies th...

Re: Where did the gun come from?
'...It might even be possible that both characters met the very same fate...' My wife and I have felt this is the case since we first saw MTTH . We feel that one of the reasons it was not in the theatrical release was that it makes things too pat and obvious. We actually think that is why some other...

Re: "It Was Red"
I have no theory about Gordy being sought; I do not think he is. This is my point, that the man being sought is the man Smithy works for , who is The Phantom , not Gordy . ** I don't assert that Piotrek is the actor playing Smithy , only that it is a possibility. After all, as applesandoranges has r...

Re: Scene 35
'...When does Kingsley say that about scene 27? I don't remember that....' It ain't Kingsley , but an assistant ( not Freddy ) who says something about Scene 27, after the 'all I see from this is blue tomorrows', good weather scene. What he says is inaudible. The fucking French subtitles omit the li...
