Re: Twin Peaks: Season 3 on Blu-ray 12/5/17

I got the DVD, not the Blu Ray. I'm still amazed with the clarity of the image. Sure, there was compression in the stream, but it's beautiful. I noticed it more than any DVD I've owned. The BTS insights are fascinating. When Lynch describes Freddie's fight with Bob, it sounds so much more visceral, ...

Re: 'Twin Peaks: The Final Dossier' Novel by Mark Frost 10/31

Spoiler:
I'm still not convinced as to the neccessity of the book, but Frost really gets into the feeling of the first two seasons. Really well. He should have single-handedly written all of Albert's dialogue this season, his personality just leaps out.

Re: 'Twin Peaks: The Final Dossier' Novel by Mark Frost 10/31

I really don't understand this book. If Frost is such a 'keeper of the flame' when it comes to the show's ambiguity and lack of conclusivity, then what is he wanting to achieve with this book? The Secret History was wayward, and sometimes intruging, but it was a perfect opportunity to set up some of...

Re: FINAL POLL!!!!!!! Your Reaction to The Return as a Complete Work

Inland Empire, despite being heavily made-up as it went along, feels so much more cohesive than The Return. It's much scarier and more disturbing; the scene with the homeless people, the "hole in her vagina wall", and the final kick of it (maybe) being just a movie. The Phantom, too. It's ...

Re: The visual aesthetic of the new Twin Peaks

I saw this on Reddit, props to the user Hybries for the translation. It was an interview with Pierre Buffin, director of BUF who created the visual effects for The Return. There are some interesting quotes that stand out: "We did most of the special effect in 3D, like the atomic explosion, but ...

Re: After Kyle, who was the best actor?

After Kyle, I don't think I can just name one. Best performances: -Dana, who was sensitive and beautifully inquisitive. -Seyfried, an intense livewire throughout. -Lillard. Parts 1 & 2 were arguably defined by his tragic and utterly convincing downfall. -Everett, Forster and Brent Briscoe, who a...

Re: The visual aesthetic of the new Twin Peaks

I would have loved it if The Return was shot like Inland Empire. Something about it stands on this strange line between rich and visually stunning, and flat and lifeless. Compare Cooper's dinner with the Mitchum brothers or the New York scenes with Steven and Gersten in the woods or Gordon, Albert a...

Re: Poll: Would you like to see a 4th season happen? (SPOILERS PERMITTED)

Only if it's of a piece, and follows the plot threads of The Return sparingly. I would not want to hear more second-hand details of Major Briggs' inter-dimensional exploits, or protracted exposition. Any further seasons have to feel like they're their own thing, not just a simple continuation. I wou...

Re: Poll: Worst Roadhouse performance

I'll take every opportunity to say it, but Au Revoir Simone. A gutless, trendily disinterested group without weight or substance. The only act that was perfect for me, was the Chromatics. It was so beautiful. I like the Eddie Vedder song too, and it encapsulated the show's themes really well. The se...

Re: Music From The New Series

I got the vinyl of the soundtrack yesterday. Not the Roadhouse one. It's showing to me how good the music in this show was. I love how the emotion in Badalamenti's new pieces is both very human and tangible, but also alien, distant and towering.

Re: What were the most impactful scenes of TP:TR?

Too many. - Cooper's head whipping around, as the pianist hits the first few notes of 'Heartbreaking'. - The end credits of Part 18; Cooper, Laura and 'Dark Space Low'. - The end of Part 2; all the lodge, Cooper in the glass box, and Chromatics at the Roadhouse. - The Fireman creating Laura's orb an...

Re: FINAL POLL!!!!!!! Your Reaction to The Return as a Complete Work

I'll always question some of the creative and narrative decisions that The Return made. I don't think I'll ever be truly comfortable with it. Like many other posts say, it had so much duality; unremarkable cinematography, sometimes ugly/some of the most unbelievable visuals of Lynch's career, with a...

Re: List of all the unsolved mysteries (SPOILERS)

My questions I have to think about; - How does Gordon know Jeffries "doesn't really exist anymore"? Has he been to the Convenience Store? Did Jeffries contact him? If he knows this, why does Albert's revelation in Part 4 take him so off guard? You'd think he'd know everything that was happ...
