Re: POLL: The Nature of Audrey's Situation (Spoilers)

So, anyway, with all that in mind, back to Audrey : she was pulled out of whatever Twin Peaks "dream" she was in before her scene at the RoadHouse, and her story was indeed terminated with her being pulled to our reality / dream... So the last time we see her, we might actually just be se...

Re: Twin Peaks Return: The Profoundly Disappointed Support Group (SPOILERS)

Warning: strong Laura/BOB material ahead. From Laura’s diary, talking about her early childhood: Sometime he would cut me between my legs, and other times he would cut me inside my mouth. Always tiny little cuts, hundreds of tiny little cuts. I had to use a flashlight in the bathroom or else my par...

Re: Poll: Criticism of The Return

Thoughtless gender representation. I still like it, but it badly missteps in ways I don't feel most other Lynch productions do. That's both slightly alleviated by the story coming back to Laura's abuse narrative and the way it's written onto the world, and made slightly worse by it, for being though...

Re: Twin Peaks Return: The Profoundly Disappointed Support Group (SPOILERS)

I agree with part of your post but part is nonsense. I loved FWWM too for what it's worth. But to say that those who enjoyed the show are behaving better than those those who didn't is totally wrong. Look at this thread for God's sakes. It was created for one specific purpose. Lovers of the show ha...

Re: Sarah Palmer

I'm still unsure why everyone is so convinced "frog-moth girl" needs to be a character we know, rather than representational, and have been confused on that since episode 8 aired. I mean, she certainly could be Sarah Palmer, but does she need to be? I thought she was just a rando until the...

Re: Twin Peaks Return: The Profoundly Disappointed Support Group (SPOILERS)

If Frost was the culprit for Leland, Bob, lodges and other similar ideas, he's the main culprit for what killed what I enjoyed in Twin Peaks. Fwwm was a disappointment to me as I didn't care, as metaphysic theory always bored me. I prefer Allegory. If you came away from Fire Walk With Me thinking i...

Re: David Lynch should not get away by declaring TP as a "dream"

Okay, 1) I agree that "it was a dream" is a pat approach to fiction, as it denies the weight of arcs and exploration and the simulation of feeling. Let's get that out of the way right of the bat. This is also why I don't love Mullholdand Drive (sorry!), as while it's an intimate emotional ...

Re: From an artistic standpoint, why was The Return needed at all?

With a sequel work like this, this is maybe the only question worth asking, but it involves a two-fold exploration: 1) Does the new material justify itself through its influence on the original? (I.e., does it create a more powerful ending to the whole?) Or 2) Is it a stand-alone piece using the ori...

Re: Twin Peaks Return: The Profoundly Disappointed Support Group (SPOILERS)

Do people that love TR also like anything else similar by another filmmaker? Speaking only for myself -- yes, resoundingly so. I'd imagine that's true for many critiques, actually. Lynch is unique, but he's hardly the only one who's brought a level of craft and confidence to effectively bucking exp...

Re: David Lynch should not get away by declaring TP as a "dream"

All the anger. It's weird. I spent countless hours on this universe, only to finally get a middle finger from its creators. Part 18 destroyed Twin Peaks, wether it is a dream, a parallel universe or a pocket dimension. I think some anger is justified. I think you should gloss over some of the respo...

Re: David Lynch should not get away by declaring TP as a "dream"

Try to convince me that it isn't a dream by using in-universe logic. Don't say it can't happen because David Lynch is a genius, because everybody makes mistakes. Boy, gee, did you like, read the first page of this thread? If Richard dreamed up the Chalfront/Tremond connection before encountering it...

Re: David Lynch should not get away by declaring TP as a "dream"

I mean, the single biggest WTF within a "Richard's dream" interpretation would be the shift to Laura's POV at the end, followed by her screaming the lights out of the Palmer house. There's a lot that implies it can't be the case. But that reading is teased because it's poignant enough to e...

Re: David Lynch should not get away by declaring TP as a "dream"

I also reject the whole "it was a dream" thing. If anything, as others have said, he's using that as a metaphor for storytelling. The quote "we are like the dreamer" was misused, though, because it's not something that invites the question "Who is the dreamer?". I am n...

Re: David Lynch should not get away by declaring TP as a "dream"

It's good that he didn't, then, since none of the interpretations allow for a wholly logical dream reading to lock into place. But -- it's thematically interesting to consider: fiction as a shared dream (that's a little pat, maybe, though powerful in this context), but more than that life as a dream...

Re: Part 18 - What is your name? (SPOILERS)

I agree that it was all about Laura and her story is sufficiently done. Even Cooper is an extension of Laura. I believe wholly that the heart of Twin Peaks came into being with Fire Walk With Me . I disagree, I think, that Judy needs to be removed from Sarah. I think assuming that she does is Cooper...
