World of Blue - Archived Forum 2007-2022

Just caught this on the news. David Lynch and Laura Dern will be awarded the Special Distinction Award at the Independent Spirit Awards tonight! It's on TV at 5pm ET on IF and 10pm ET on AMC (but I know IFC repeats everything.)

i watched it - david lynch wasn't there but laura dern was. they showed clips from blue velvet, wild at heart and inland empire. she had very nice things to say about dl - it was quite interesting.

I had been bummed out because DL and LD didn't receive an awards nod. Not yet anyway, they could get more nom's next year since IE is getting most of it's play this year. I noticed that several nominated films at the Independent Spirit Awards were from 2005.

Then they had Dennis Hopper get up at the Independent Spirit Awards and talk about DL and LD colabroating together. Dennis Hopper told his story about DL directing him in Blue Velvet. At the end of the rape scene DL was like, "Peachy keen!" and "That's solid gold" and "Can we get another take?" I love that story. I've heard Dennis tell it in person. Dennis also said he told DL he deserved the part because he is Frank Booth. Later DL told Dennis that what Dennis said was DL's worst nightmare. DL wrote the Blue Velvet script hoping he never met anyone like Frank Booth. LD got a laugh when she said DL asked asked her to read a haicoo he wrote and she refused. LD had lots of great things to say about DL.

And I just noticed that Laura's and David's initials are mirror images of each other. That's solid gold! Peachy keen!
