David Lynch DVD Checklist??

Post by HugoDeVries »

HELP!!

Would find a checklist of DVDs which feature Lynch in anyway very useful, from the the commerical releases of his films, to the promos and the limited editions, especially the limited editions!!

For those of us collecting lynch or trying to put together a library it would be usefull, that way we can decide which ultimate edition to with and avoid to much double dipping. Though with Lynch thats probably going to be hard as his work is appreciated in so many ways by so many countries they all seem to put out their version, after all how many releases HAS Dune had, with how many different sets of extras!!!

Anyway a checklist would be a help and the more obscure the better, remember if Lynch is on there I and we need to know

HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!

That could actually be sweet if someone has some free time on their hands because I am still a Lynch newbie, but I am trying to get hold of his movies.

I recently tried to get the Ultimate Collector's edition of Dune from Korea (yesasia.com), but received an email yesterday from the website saying that they could not get me the requested item.... Damn.
That is sad.

If anybody wants a copy of the Straight Story - Transparent Edition (probably the best release of the film so far?), it's still avaible through dvdfromkorea.com for only 8.99 USD + shipping :D

A few more pics:

(The clowdy background of the front cover is actually the front of the booklet seen through the clear plastic - get it?)

Well ive just ordered mine!!

Like the way some companies actually try to do something interesting with dvd packaging, rather than the usual photoshop picture and a small chapter list (and even those seem to be dying out!!). Criterion always give good packaging, lovely art and booklets for their Wes Anderson releases and love the mood of the complete Mr Arkadin set.

Oops slightly off the point though!!

More Lynch discs please!!!!

The 2 disc UK release of Mulholland Dr. might be the "best" release thats available, but I think its missing things from the French 2 disc set, I'm not sure. The case is quite cool though.

According to DvdCompare the best release to get would be the Dutch 2 disc set...

"The Dutch 2-Disc Set has the English DTS track (with Optional Subs), and the longest Extras. "

However, I havn't heard anything about the case for the UK 2-disc set, I thaugh it was only a keepcase???

The Dutch MD 2 disc release is no longer available. It's been replaced by a single disc bare bones edition.
That said it was never the best edition to begin with.
It lacked one of the extras included on the French 2 disc (the Cannes press conference).
Also, it was clearly inferior in image quality to the r1 NTSC (North American) edition. There was a problem with the Dolby 5.1 and the 2.0 soundtracks, a one second dropout at about the point Betty disappears and Rita opens the blue box. This flaw was not present in the Dutch DVD's DTS track, nor in any of the soundtracks included on the North American DVD. The Angelo Badalamenti interview also had lousy sound quality on the Dutch disc.

The North American SD DVD is still the best around, imo.

(And I haven't even mentioned the PAL speedup problem  )

The original UK release of Mulholland Drive was in a keepcase. The 2-disc Optimum special edition comes in a digipak inside a semi-transparent plastic slipcase.

Yep, I knew about the Dutch release, but wasn't able to find it anywhere. Just looking on the French Amazon site now, I think I found the 2 disc French release easily to buy, but its probably not worth buying if I've already got the 2 disc UK release. Thats just my opinion. I thought the French release was out of print, so thats why I assumed the 2 disc UK release was the best thats readily available. Sorry for any confusion.

What do people think of

I DON'T KNOW JACK

THE ART OF DAVID LYNCH

DYNAMIC 01: THE BEST OF DAVIDLYNCH.COM

I own the last two.

Also, I own 2 editions of Mulholland Drive, the 2-disc Lost Highway from UK, Twin Peaks from UK and US, FWWM from UK (but I believe the US has better transfer? I bought UK one for booklet and special features), and all the other ones mentioned bar The Straight Story Korean one. I have UK one. Like the covers of both Korean and US ones.

What do people think is by far and the way best Lynch dvd? Taking quality, price, features into consideration.

My opinion would be INLAND EMPIRE - 2 discs, deleted scenes and loads of other footage, plus great price. Let's not mention the UK one, though, no deleted scenes? An outrage!
