The Air Is On Fire CD

Post by Teopeaks »

Hu Dygpa,

Apparently, the CD sold at davidlynch.com is not the same CD as the one in the book. In the book, it was an interview with some sounds sometimes.

On davidlynch.com it's sold as the soundscape to the exhibition, which seems to be a compilation of all the sounds and musics used during the exhibition.

you're right. the cd sold at dl.com is the soundrack of the exhibition (we talked bout that in the aiof thread). It has nothing to do with the 2 interview cds included in the book.
the same cd was on sale at the fondation cartier bookshop.

Sorry I'm retreading an old thread, I'm brand new to this forum ,(but a long time fan of Lynch) and so I'm trying to catch up.
Just wondering if there is anywhere else one can buy a copy of "The Air Is On Fire" CD other than D.L.com? Of course I'd love to buy direct from that site, but when I started the process of getting that CD and some coffee, shipping to Australia was around $105 !!! Nearly 3 times the amount of the two products total. Any advice?

Hey there - I've seen it on EBay once or twice, very reasonably priced!

Thanks very much Fall of Sophia,
That must be a recent addition. That will certainly tide me over until I can find a CD copy. I notice they have the Ghost of Love single too.
Cheers

It's a really great sound design/mood CD.

Not like Eraserhead. A little more like those ambient pieces in Mulholland Drive like when the the guy describes his dream at the diner and then sees the homeless man behind the wall... That sort of feeling yet something new.

The Air Is On Fire: VII (Interior) has a sort of old-style Jazz tune mixed in with the soundscape. Very Inland Empire-ish. A recommend for Lynch fans who like to DrEaM.

The Air Is On Fire
The Air Is On Fire: I (Station) 12:40
The Air Is On Fire: II (Porticos) 6:51
The Air Is On Fire: III (Grey) 3:10
The Air Is On Fire: IV (History) 3:56
The Air Is On Fire: V (Theater) 11:58
The Air Is On Fire: VI (Black) 6:38
The Air Is On Fire: VII (Interior) 4:17
The Air Is On Fire: VIII (Distortion) 8:53

Cheers,
I did end up buying the mp3s from iTunes. It's pretty good, some overly electo/synthy things in the first one that I didn't like that much, but overall it's fantastic. Hopefully I'll get the CD one day.

The interesting thing is some of it reminds me of Mick Harris' LULL project. Harris was originally inspired by the soundtrack to 'Eraserhead'
Mick's a very talented guy and if you like Lynch's soundscape stuff, I think you would like LULL, check it out.

Can I ask where you got those track titles? I can't see any on the CD I bought at the Fondation Cartier.

@ brokentiny: Thanks for the link--will def. check his stuff out!

@Robin: You are correct--I popped the CD into my Mac and iTunes listed the tracks so it must be embedded in the ID tags, or something...

I like to play this cd on my ipod while reading. Real mood setter. Doesn't distract and sort of elevates your state of conciousness.
