Officier de la Légion d'Honneur

Post by kelvah »

It seems that tomorrow the french president Sarkozy will mention David "Officier de la Legion d'Honnoeur".
David has already received the title of Chevalier in 2002 at the Festival de Cannes by the french government.

The news in english and in french.

This the official communiqué from the "Présidence de la République" :

It is a fact that Lynch is very popular in France...
But you have to remember that the French president's wife, Cecilia Sarkozy, has been shooted with Lynch at the Vernissage of his new photos exhibition in Paris...

viewtopic.php?t=396

Some articles had been published about that, especially by the magazine "Les Inrockuptibles", the most important and influent one about rock culture... The journalistes, who discovered this photo by reading the Dugpa discussion board (YES !), were upset because this magazine is very engaged against the very conservative Sarkozy (as much as they love Lynch, actually !)...

Quiet strange to see Lynch being prized like that...

yeah, it pisses me off. Sometimes, Lynch should just stay indifferent to such hypocrisy. His work is apolitical and it's fine this way, but the man lacks some dissociation.

english quotes

it is no secret that I love France, the art making, art loving and art supporting people of France ... I wish the very best for this great country and for you mister president I wish you, as president of France, maximum success and maximum success for the entire great nation of France ...
I respectfully request you Mr president to choose the ideal location to build a tower of invincibility in Paris ... a tower which would create and perpetually commemorate invincibility for France

If Lynch wants to hang out with the French president or the French president's wife, surely that's his business? He doesn't let people tell him how to make his movies and I'm sure he is just certain about who he wants to be seen with!

I'm thrilled about Lynch's award. Much deserved. He's my favourite filmmaker; even when I don't like all of his films, I still find them engrossing and worthy of my time!

I think it all sounds very cool and cultured of the French. Herve Love, could you do a bit more translating into English? I don't think too many of us here speak French. Thanks.

Thanks for the English article, edenweaver! I didn't realize Lynch had a "partner," either. So what's the scoop on her?
