Nostalgia Chick's review of Dune

Post by Montana »

How many people here saw the Nostalgia Chick's review of Dune (from summer last year?)? It was a pretty shoddy piece of work, not because it was negative but because it misrepresented the film for comic effect. (For example, the spice is hardly a McGuffin - it is central to the plot.) Even fans will admit that there are plenty of problems with Dune, no one needs to invent faults in order to criticise the film. One of her principal mistakes was to claim the film was more confused than it was.
Anyway, the upshot was that so many people reacted badly to her review that she took down the review and later posted an explanation/apology. I think the apology (which you can see here: http://blip.tv/nostalgia-chick/lindsay- ... ne-5187845 ) misses the real shortfall of her review (that she misrepresented the film) and suggests that she was subject to hostility because she had attacked a sacred cow. Interestingly, she says that she is under pressure to produce one review per two weeks and that she didn't do a good job on the review.
Well, does anyone know where I can find a copy of the review so I can check my judgment/memory?
Thanks,
Monty

I'll ask over at the Dunenovels forum, but I never heard of that.

I got a reply from Byron Merritt, who is Frank Herbert's grandson. He said the Nostalgia Chick said she would put her post back up soon.

All you have to do is go to dunenovels.com. It's a big, pretty site. Devoted to their family. The message board is run by Byron (who's not really that special--he's just the only one with blood ties and in control of publishing what and what not the family is doing.)

PS-Byron is the boardadmin on the forum.

Couldn't find the reposted review anywhere. Am I missing an obvious link?
(I think I have too much time on my hands to return to that video.)

Thanks for the link, Annie. But this is the apology/explanation not the original review. I was curious to check out the review again. As far as I know, the original review by her isn't available online (or at least I couldn't find it by searching). Does anyone know how I could access the original review?
