I'm pretty sure we had asked John if he still had those recordings since that was a long time ago. However, I haven't emailed him in ages, so I'll ask. (He doesn't come here often.)

Awesome, Annie! Thanks! ;) I'm on a bit of a Dune kick recently. I just heard about that 4 DVD Dune set and I'm going to have to track it down. Also, I got the Dune book by Herbert, so I'm going to give that a read, then go back and see the film again.

Heard back from John Neff and he remembers saving the tape, but after all these years, who knows where?
Too bad. He'll let us know if he ever finds it.

What 4 Dvd Dune set are you referring to?

Thank you for asking! I hope he can find it and wishes to post it some day.

It's "DUNE - The ULTIMATE Edition DVD," which is also the name of the topic here in the Dune section where they talk about it. http://www.dugpa.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=341

That was in 2007 and they had a hard time locating it. Most have moved on to Blu-ray.

I'd take it on DVD if I could get it. Blu-ray would be even better, of course. I love to see the different editions from other countries.

It would be nice to get it just for the interviews (with DL and Frank Herbert,) but I read that the current Blu-ray edition doesn't have any extras on it. Too bad.

There's a quote in the "Encyclopedia of Science Fiction" that pretty much sums up my views on Lynch's "Dune" - Bits of this bad film are close to masterful.

I still love the film, and the book, but I just wonder what Lynch could've done with six hours to play with, rather than 2 1/4 :?
