Eraserhead being released by Criterion Collection

Post by trollmanen »

I was browsing iTunes and came across this:

http://itunes.apple.com/us/movie/eraserhead/id541707783

It's under the Criterion Collection section with the cover being specific to CC. It's in full 1080p HD as well. I've seen some speculation on some other forums that this means it's being released by them, many saying this October. They're announcing their next wave of releases next week so I guess we'll find out. I was surprised to now see anything about this here.

That is one of the cheapest cover designs for a Criterion that I've ever seen.

A whole year has past and I am surprised we haven't heard any more about this being released.

Looks like we're getting everything off the original Dl.com Eraserhead DVD, but with uncompressed stereo AND ealmost verything off the Short a Films DVD release. I don't see "Cowboy and the Frenchman" listed, perhaps for rights reasons. Too bad, I happen to think its very funny.

Looking forward to this release a lot.

Another must have (have pre-ordered)...this will go nicely with my deluxe Japanese blu-ray that I picked up a year or two back. Will likely be region A locked, which is standard Criterion.

The recently released Criterion edition of Eraserhead is defective. To get a replacement disc...

Email mulvaney@criterion.com with “Eraserhead Replacement” in the subject line.

Thankfully, they changed the cover design (the final design isn't what is on iTunes, nor is it what Jerry Horne posted just a few posts up). It's all been tightened up for a better design.

Unfortunately, there's that white fade out missing, AND the whole film is WAY too dark. Even comparing to Lynch's director-approved DVD, the differences is astounding. The Japanese Blu-ray looks more consistent with the director-approved DVD:

Wow, when put up against the other editions, that really is shockingly dark.

Can anyone tell me if the new Blu Ray is worth buying. How long is the documentary with the crew on it?
