Laura Dern did a fantastic job and I can't imagine anyone else playing that part (or parts) but of all the actors DL has worked with Sheryl Lee is my favourite and I hope they work together again one day. Her cameo as the Good Witch in Wild At Heart is the highlight of the film for me and I'd have loved to see her in the finale of Inland Empire. I've always felt that was a missed opportunity.

Not only can I imagine the casting, each time we watch the thing I make remarks to that effect. My wife disagrees.
I agree LD is very effective, of course.
